Chapter 88
The jade bracelet caught the light, casting golden specks that shimmered across the room. Shawn, his tone calm and calculated, spoke without hesitation.
“I’ll give you one last chance, Gale,” he said, his eyes narrowing as he held the jade bracelet in his hand. “As long as you agree to the abortion, I will give your mother the medicine and this jade bracelet.”
He paused, watching her carefully. To him, this was already a generous offer—an act of mercy he wasn’t obligated to provide. “Don’t be ignorant. Take this chance. Is Sam’s evil child really more important than your mother’s health?”
He believed without question that the child belonged to Sam, despite everything Gale had said. His words were firm, as if the matter was already settled in his mind. “You forced me into this,” she whispered, her voice shaking slightly.
“If you still have a chance to be persecuted by me,” Shawn countered, “you should be grateful.” His words were cold, ruthless. He was someone who did not hesitate to cut people off entirely. With him, there was no room for second chances, no space for turning back.
Gale had been lucky enough to share his bed, but now, that same luck felt like a curse.
There was a brief, suffocating silence, so thick it seemed like time itself had stopped. The tension in the room was almost unbearable.
“Think about it,” Shawn’s voice thundered again, breaking the stillness. “One last minute.”
Gale’s body trembled uncontrollably. Her legs felt weak, her body heavy as though she might collapse at any moment. “Shawn…” Her voice was barely a whisper, filled with helplessness.
She couldn’t choose. She didn’t want to. But in the face of Shawn’s unwavering will, what choice did she have?
Shawn’s patience ran out. He stood up abruptly. “Enough. Time’s up,” he declared, his tone final, as though her decision had already been made for her.
Gale stood frozen, her eyes locking on him. Shawn walked toward her, slowly, deliberately, as if savoring the moment. He raised the jade bracelet high in his hand, holding it before her face for one last time. Then, with an almost casual motion, he let it slip from his fingers.
The bracelet fell through the air, its descent slow, almost agonizing.
“Shawn! No!” Gale cried, her voice desperate as she rushed forward, but it was too late. The bracelet hit the cold marble floor with a sharp, crisp snap.
Her heart shattered with the sound.
The precious heirloom, passed down through generations from her grandmother to her mother, was now broken. Torn to pieces by her own hands—by Shawn’s cruelty.
She dropped to her knees, her hands trembling as she collected the shattered pieces from the floor. Each fragment felt like another piece of her soul breaking away.
“Shawn, your heart is so cruel,” she murmured, her voice thick with emotion. “You never give me any chances. You must completely cut off any hope I have left.”
She struggled to piece the bracelet together, her fingers trembling as she tried to align the fragments. But no matter how hard she tried, the cracks were too obvious. Even if she glued them together, the damage would always be visible.
It was beyond repair.
Her hand shook as she pressed the pieces against her chest, holding them close to her heart. The pain in her chest mirrored the jagged edges of the broken jade—sharp, raw, and impossible to heal.
“This is your decision,” Shawn said coldly, standing above her, watching her struggle. “You had the chance to keep it whole. But now, this is all you have left.”
His words were final, and they hung in the air like an execution sentence. He turned his back on her without a second glance, his steps echoing in the empty room.
“You’ll lose your child, Gale,” he added, his voice carrying over his shoulder as he walked away. “Right now, you’re only keeping it temporarily. If you had aborted it earlier, you would’ve gained so much more.”
His words stung like a slap, cruel and unfeeling. Gale sat in the silence, her hands clutching the broken jade pieces to her chest, the sharp edges digging into her palm. The pain in her heart was almost unbearable, but it was nothing compared to the sharpness of the broken jade in her hands.
She was alone now, abandoned in a room full of shattered pieces—of her hopes, her dreams, and her future.
