Chapter 65
Gale swallowed another abortion prevention pill, feeling a little more at ease. Tomorrow, she would have to go to the hospital again to donate blood to Dean, and the thought gnawed at her. She needed a way out of this situation, but no clear solution came to mind.
As night fell, Gale lingered in the living room, pushing the clock toward midnight. The less time she spent with Shawn, the better. She had to avoid him as much as possible.
Finally, she entered their bedroom, closing the door behind her. Just as she turned around, Shawn stepped out of the bathroom, freshly showered. They collided, both startled by the sudden contact.
Gale quickly stepped back, glancing at him with wide eyes. His upper body was bare, the muscles defined and glistening with water droplets. His lower body was only covered by a bath towel.
“Sorry…” Gale mumbled in a panic, her face flushing with embarrassment. Why was this man always half-naked?
She tried to rush past him, but the wet floor caused her feet to slip. Instinctively, Gale reached out for something to steady herself. She grabbed onto something hard and yanked at it, trying to prevent herself from falling.
But the object in her hand slipped from her grasp and fell to the floor with a soft thud.
Her heart pounded in her chest as she took a deep breath. “Thankfully, I didn’t fall…”
But as she looked down, her eyes widened in shock. She had torn Shawn’s bath towel off.
What now? Should she look up at him or keep her head down? Shawn stood there, fully exposed, and it was more than enough to make her heart race.
“If you’re trying to seduce me, you’ll have to try harder. Pick it up,” Shawn’s cold voice broke the silence.
Gale froze for a moment, unsure if she’d heard him right.
“Pick it up?”
“Did I stutter?” Shawn’s voice was sharper now, laced with impatience.
Gale felt trapped. Reluctantly, she bent down and picked up the bath towel, holding it tightly in her hands. “Then?”
“Come over here.”
What? He wanted her to wrap it around him?
There was no way she could do that. She bit her lip, hesitating. But Shawn’s voice again sliced through the tension.
“What are you still standing there for? Put it back.”
Gale could only swallow her embarrassment, feeling like the world was closing in on her. She closed her eyes, deciding it was better to just get it over with. She unfolded the towel and, trembling slightly, reached for Shawn’s body, her hands touching his damp skin.
Her breath hitched as she tried to focus, but the more nervous she became, the harder it was to do this right. Her fingers fumbled, and a bead of sweat dripped from her forehead.
“Aren’t you going to open your eyes?” Shawn’s voice was low and teasing.
“No, I…I don’t need to…” Gale stammered, feeling the heat rise in her cheeks. If she opened her eyes, she would have to look at him, and she couldn’t bear it. It was too much.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, she finished. She let out a shaky sigh of relief, but before she could stand up, she felt herself lifted off the ground.
Shawn’s arms wrapped around her, and he pressed her down onto the sofa. His body was warm and solid against hers.
“Shawn, you…” Gale gasped, her hands instinctively going to her chest as her heart raced in panic.
“In the future,” he murmured against her ear, his voice thick with frustration, “stop playing these cheap tricks.”
“I wasn’t…” Gale tried to protest, but her voice faltered. She felt trapped, unsure of what to say or do next.
