Chapter 97
Gale’s voice was steady, but her heart raced. “I didn’t have anything romantic to do with him, and we didn’t talk about work. It was just meeting a friend.”
“Friend?” Shawn’s voice dripped with contempt.
“Yes,” Gale said, trying to hold her ground.
Shawn’s fists clenched, his teeth gritted. “Okay, stop being friends!” His words came out like a low growl. Before Gale could react, he was already standing in front of Sam. He grabbed Sam’s collar with a brutal force, yanking him up as his fist swung down with a thunderous crack.
Sam staggered backward, blood spurting from his nose. He wiped it away and shot Shawn a glare, trying to steady himself. “How dare you hit me?”
Shawn’s eyes were filled with rage. “Since you know she is my woman, you should die as soon as possible!”
Sam wiped more blood from his lip and stood his ground. “But you don’t love her! Why are you torturing her like this?”
Shawn’s lips curled into a sneer. “This is between her and me. You don’t get to give us advice!”
Sam’s eyes narrowed. “If you can’t give her the best, give her back to me. I can treat your trash as a treasure.”
“You wish,” Shawn spat, stepping forward again and delivering another brutal punch. Sam swayed, trying to fight back, but his strength was fading fast. The two men quickly circled each other, trading blows with the intensity of a battle neither seemed willing to back down from.
“Stop fighting!” Gale shouted desperately. “Shawn! Stop it!”
But Shawn was beyond reason. He was ruthless, showing no mercy. He was a trained fighter—taekwondo, black belt. Sam didn’t stand a chance against him. The more Gale shouted, the more aggressive Shawn became.
Sam fell to one knee, his face pale from the blood loss, struggling to rise, but Shawn was relentless. He was getting closer to ending this fight once and for all. Gale’s panic skyrocketed. She couldn’t let this happen.
Without thinking, she rushed forward and positioned herself between Shawn and Sam, her body blocking the next punch that Shawn was about to throw. The fist stopped just a centimeter from her face, and Gale could feel the rush of air from it.
Shawn’s breath was ragged, his eyes wild with fury. “Gale! Get out of the way!” he shouted, voice sharp with command.
“I won’t!” Gale replied firmly, standing her ground.
Shawn’s eyes flashed with cold fury. “I don’t hit women,” he spat, but his anger was palpable. “Don’t force me!”
Gale lifted her chin, her voice unwavering. “You can’t hit him anymore. He’ll die if you keep going.”
Shawn’s chest heaved as he fought to control himself. He was consumed by jealousy, by anger—and yes, by something else. The sight of Gale standing in front of Sam, the man who had claimed her, was too much for him. But deep down, he knew he couldn’t go through with it. He couldn’t hit Gale, not like this.
The tension in his fists was overwhelming. He wanted to strike out, to end it, but he couldn’t—hitting a woman, especially her, was beneath him. His mind raced, filled with fury, but also a deep sadness, though he quickly shut that thought down.
Gale’s voice broke the silence again. “It’s all my fault. I wanted to see him. I took the initiative to find him. Sam is just… so enthralled by me that he agreed to meet. If you want to kill him, then just kill me instead!” She was taking on the responsibility, protecting Sam at all costs.
Sam quickly tried to intervene. “Gale, you…”
But Gale gave him a small, urgent wink, silencing him.
Shawn’s hands trembled as he tightened his fist, the weight of Gale’s words heavy in the air. His mind was a storm, but her face—the face he couldn’t bear to hurt—was keeping him from unleashing the fury inside.
He wanted to hit her, but he couldn’t. He couldn’t do it. The raw anger was still there, but there was something deeper—something he could no longer ignore.
“Get out of the way. Did you hear me?” His voice was a low growl, but the tension was palpable.
“No, I won’t. Hit me if you can!” Gale stood her ground, her eyes steady, refusing to back down.
