Chapter 93
Susan marched into the Jewelry Department, and the moment she appeared, the entire office seemed to tense up. Her reputation for causing trouble had spread, especially after she’d once had Gale arrested in front of her colleagues. The moment she set foot in the department, people stepped aside, making way for her, but no one wanted to get too close.
“Hey, hey, peasant, you’re not welcome here,” Summer greeted her with a smirk, unfazed by the tension in the room.
“I was actually looking for you, Summer!” Susan shot back, her voice dripping with venom. “It was you and Gale who hurt me last night!”
Summer’s acting skills were just as sharp as Gale’s, but with a much more aggressive edge. She laughed loudly, clearly enjoying the moment. “Haha, who do you think you are? I’m a dignified director, and Gale is a dignified chief designer. We have no time to deal with someone as insignificant as you. What kind of idiot do you think you are?”
Susan’s teeth clenched, her face reddening with anger. “Okay, I get it now. You two have teamed up!”
She turned to Gale, her finger pointing accusingly at her. “Don’t get too proud. You won this time, but next time, I’ll make sure you both pay double!”
Summer stood protectively in front of Gale, chin high, and with a snap of her finger, she pointed back at Susan. “Move your hand away. This isn’t a restaurant, and you’re not here to place an order.”
Susan’s face twisted in fury. “This is Shawn’s company! The future Mrs. Wood will own you all! I’m the future boss!”
“Someone’s claiming to be the future boss?” Summer raised an eyebrow, the words dripping with sarcasm.
The crowd around them snickered, unable to hold back their laughter at Susan’s ridiculous claim.
Susan’s face went from red to pale in an instant. She was not only humiliated by Gale, but now by Summer too. And she couldn’t even fight back—when it came to verbal sparring, Susan was hopelessly outmatched.
Fuming with anger, Susan raised her hand and attempted to slap Summer across the face. “You b*tch! I’ll make sure you can’t work here anymore!” she screeched.
But Summer was quicker. She grabbed Susan’s wrist, twisting it until Susan cried out in pain. “Trying to hit me? You’re a little weak for that,” Summer taunted, her eyes cold.
With a swift motion, Summer slapped Susan back, giving her a taste of her own medicine. She was done being nice to this spoiled mistress.
But before the situation could escalate further, a firm hand reached out, stopping the chaos in its tracks.
“Stop.”
The entire office went silent as Shawn Wood entered the room, his commanding presence immediately taking control of the situation.
“Mr. Wood!” Susan exclaimed in relief, seeing her supposed savior. “You asked me to find out the truth, but this woman won’t let me in and even beat me!”
Summer’s face fell with regret. Why couldn’t I have been quicker? she thought. In that split second, she could’ve had the satisfaction of slapping Susan into silence.
Shawn’s gaze was cold as he turned to Summer. “It’s you, Mr. Wood,” she replied, her tone tight. “No outsiders are allowed to make noise in the company. I’m doing things by the rules. And she started it first.”
Susan, always quick to point the finger, was ready to cry foul. “She’s the one who started it! She cursed me! Mr. Wood, I want her to apologize!”
“Bah! You’re dreaming,” Summer spat. Shawn’s eyes flickered to Gale, but she didn’t even spare him a glance, instead staring off as if she couldn’t care less. Her indifference made Shawn’s frown deepen, though he didn’t comment on it.
Gale seemed determined to stay out of the mess. She didn’t want to get involved, and it was obvious to everyone.
At that moment, Joe walked in, sensing the tension in the room immediately. He took in the scene, his gaze flicking between the angry women and Summer’s fierce expression. Understanding what was going on, he moved swiftly.
“Shawn, wow, what a mess. Let me apologize to you on behalf of Summer, alright?” Joe offered, pulling Shawn aside, hoping to diffuse the tension.
Shawn glanced at Joe with a deep, unreadable look. “Take care of your woman,” he muttered.
Joe, a little thrown off by Shawn’s comment, felt an unexpected warmth at the suggestion. But he quickly brushed it off, chalking it up to their complicated relationship.
With a sigh, Shawn turned to leave, but Susan wasn’t ready to give up. She hurried after him, whining, “Mr. Wood, why did you just leave like that…?”
Joe turned toward the two women, shaking his head. “You two ladies, why did you mess with Susan again?”
Susan, still reeling from her humiliation, wasn’t about to let go of her anger. But as Joe looked at her, it was clear that even he wasn’t going to let her drag this situation on any longer.
