Chapter 41
Gale’s heart skipped a beat as she saw Sam lying on the bed, his shirt open, eyes closed as if he were asleep.
Oops!
It was a trap. Gale’s mind raced as she realized the worst, and she quickly turned around to run for the door. But to her horror, the door wouldn’t open. She was locked in from the outside.
“Susan! Open the door!” Gale pounded on the door, her voice frantic. “What do you want to do?”
No matter how loud she shouted, no one responded. It seemed like she was stuck here for the night.
No, no, calm down… She still had her phone.
Gale scrambled to take out her phone, but before she could even unlock it, a sudden wave of dizziness hit her. Her vision blurred, and strange, ghostly images flickered before her eyes. Her body swayed uncontrollably, and before she could even process what was happening, she lost consciousness.
Meanwhile, back at Temperley Hall, Shawn had just gotten out of the car and was heading toward the villa when his phone started ringing.
He glanced at the screen and saw that it was a message from Susan.
“Mr. Wood, why did you leave? I’m so bored here alone.”
Shawn shrugged it off and replied casually, “I ran into an old friend and chatted in her room for a while.”
Susan sent a picture of herself with a smile, clearly trying to provoke a reaction from him. But Shawn wasn’t interested, so he barely glanced at the image before turning off his phone.
Just as he was about to take another step, something caught his attention.
Wait…
Shawn stopped in his tracks. The background of that photo looked familiar.
He pulled out his phone again, zoomed in on the picture, and studied it closely.
In the upper-right corner, just about to enter the hotel room, he saw a familiar figure. It was unmistakably Gale.
He recognized the dress she was wearing—it was the one he had picked out for her. There was no mistaking it.
Why was Gale at the hotel in the middle of the night? Hadn’t he told her to go home?
Key! Shawn’s thoughts raced, and without wasting another moment, he spun around and dashed back to the car.
‘Gale, you better not do anything to anger me…’ he thought, his frustration building.
The journey to the hotel, which usually took thirty minutes, was reduced to just over ten minutes. Shawn’s face was dark with fury, and no one dared to approach him as he stormed inside.
When he arrived at room 6888, he didn’t hesitate. He kicked the door open with force, storming straight into the bedroom.
The loud bang of the door woke the two occupants in the bed.
Gale, still dazed, could barely focus on anything as she stared blankly at the ceiling, her strength drained. Beside her, Sam stirred, pressing his temple. “Where am I…?”
Both of them turned to look at each other, confusion flashing in their eyes.
The next moment, Gale’s face drained of color.
“It’s over.”
Before she could even make it out of bed, Shawn had already appeared in front of them. His eyes were sharp, like a blade, as he shouted, “GALE!”
She had dared to cheat on him.
The fury in his voice was unmistakable. She had truly angered him, and now she would pay the price.
On the large bed, Gale and Sam lay side by side, their clothes scattered around them, the scene looking exactly as it seemed—an affair had taken place.
“No, it’s not…” Gale shook her head rapidly, her voice desperate. “Shawn, it’s not what you think!”
“I saw it with my own eyes!” Shawn’s voice was seething. “I caught you red-handed. Do you think I’m blind?”
“Things are not what they seem!” Gale pleaded, but it was no use. The evidence spoke for itself. She and Sam were in the bed together, half-naked.
With a snarl, Shawn strode over to her, grabbed her wrist, and yanked her off the bed, dragging her away forcefully.
