Chapter 71
Shawn stared at his computer, ready to start his work, but for a brief moment, his mind went blank.
Gale… is pregnant?
It couldn’t be.
If it were true, there could only be one explanation.
She cheated on him.
Did she really dare?
It was absurd.
Fury coursed through his veins. Without wasting another second, he grabbed his phone and made a call.
“Fiona.”
“Yes, Mr. Wood.”
“Go to the hospital, take the blood Gale had drawn but not yet used, and deliver it to the obstetrics and gynecology department. I want the results tonight.”
“Understood, Mr. Wood.”
Meanwhile, Gale had no idea what was happening. She was simply going through her day as usual—working on her designs, then having lunch in the company cafeteria. Summer joked about how much more she had been eating lately, but Gale didn’t think much of it.
Shawn, on the other hand, was busy. He left his office, and Fiona was waiting for him.
“Mr. Wood, the hospital results are in. Take a look.”
She handed him a sealed document, and he quickly glanced at it.
“Keep this to yourself. Don’t tell anyone,” he ordered.
Fiona nodded, lowering her head. “Of course, Mr. Wood.”
Shawn trusted Fiona. She had been by his side for many years, and she was loyal—he knew he could count on her.
Sitting in his car, he opened the envelope. His eyes scanned the document quickly, and the words hit him like a punch to the gut.
Five weeks pregnant.
Shawn stared at the paper in disbelief.
Gale is pregnant.
His mind raced, but only one thought dominated his emotions: She betrayed me.
Before he could process his fury fully, the car door opened. Gale stepped inside, clearly out of breath, likely having rushed to meet him, probably worried he’d be angry after waiting for so long.
But the moment she got in the car, she could feel it—the cold, dangerous energy radiating from him. His eyes, normally calm, were now filled with rage.
Gale’s heart skipped a beat. “What… what’s wrong?”
She noticed the paper in his hand, but it was too far to see the words.
Shawn threw the paper at her. “Gale, you’ve got some nerve!”
Her hand shook as she grabbed the paper and looked down at it.
It was a pregnancy test result.
Her name was written on it.
Five weeks pregnant.
Gale froze, her body going cold. Her hands and feet felt like they were made of ice, and a wave of panic hit her, rushing the blood from her face.
Her secret, the one she had kept hidden so carefully, had been uncovered.
Shawn, who had always been intimidating, now exuded a terrifying force. His eyes, dark as night, burned with anger.
Gale wanted to speak, to explain herself, but her throat was dry. The words stuck, and she couldn’t manage a single syllable.
“Do you want to die?” Shawn’s voice was dangerously calm as his hand shot out and gripped her neck, pulling her toward him with terrifying force. “I can make that happen.”
Gale bit her lip, trying to stop herself from trembling. “I… I have nothing to say.”
There was no point in saying anything now. The truth was out, and she couldn’t hide from it anymore.
Shawn’s anger seemed to grow by the second. With one hand, he grabbed her bag.
Gale’s heart raced. “Don’t!”
But it was too late.
Shawn opened her bag and turned it upside down. Everything inside spilled across the seat.
Her abortion prevention pills fell out, landing right in front of him.
Shawn’s eyes darkened as he stared at them. “So, you knew you were pregnant all along, didn’t you? Taking medicine, hiding it from everyone. No wonder you were so desperate for a divorce and wanted to go back to the mental hospital. You wanted to keep this child from me.”
His voice was seething with anger, each word cutting through the air like a knife.
Gale sat in stunned silence, her heart pounding. There was no escaping the truth now. The weight of everything she had been hiding had finally crushed her, and all she could do was sit there, helpless under Shawn’s glare.
