Chapter 66
Gale tried to gather her thoughts, feeling as though everything that had happened was just a series of unfortunate coincidences. She didn’t want any of this to happen, but it seemed like the world had different plans for her.
Shawn’s voice broke through her thoughts, his tone mocking as he spoke. “You think I can’t see through it?”
Gale didn’t know how to respond. She just shrugged and muttered, “You’re free to think whatever you want. I’m going to bed.”
Before she could retreat, Shawn lowered his head and kissed her lips. His hair brushed against her eyes, irritating her, but the kiss itself was surprisingly gentle, almost soft—nothing like the violent, domineering kisses he had given her before.
Just as Gale raised her hand to push him away, Shawn quickly caught it and held it above her head.
“Do you want me to give you what you want?” Shawn’s voice was cold and dismissive. “It would save you a lot of trouble.”
She didn’t have time to react before Shawn’s kiss turned forceful again, sucking her lips until they bled. Gale winced in pain, her entire body tensing as she tried to push him off. But the more she resisted, the harder he pressed against her, pinning her in place.
In a panic, Gale bit him back, the taste of blood suddenly mingling in their mouths.
Shawn finally released her lips and put his hands behind her ears, his eyes dark and intense, staring at her like he was studying every inch of her. There was blood on the corners of her lips, and she looked undeniably tempting in that moment.
Gale couldn’t decipher what he was thinking. The silence stretched on, and she remained quiet, knowing better than to provoke him further.
After a long pause, Shawn spoke, his voice low and conflicted. “Sometimes I really want you to succeed, but I can’t do what you want.”
He wiped the blood from her lips with a gentleness that seemed out of place, but Gale stayed silent. She knew he was unpredictable, his emotions volatile and easily triggered.
Shawn stood up, his voice cold as he gave her a final command. “Put your clothes on.”
Gale quickly glanced down, realizing that in the struggle, her collar had loosened, revealing the soft curves of her breasts. She hastily covered herself up and rushed to the bathroom, hoping to hide from Shawn’s prying eyes.
Once inside, she looked at her reflection in the mirror. Her lips were swollen and bloodied, her hair a mess, and her cheeks flushed with embarrassment. The sight was a clear indicator of what had just occurred.
She was about to turn on the tap when she heard Shawn’s voice on the other side of the door. He was on the phone, his tone urgent. “Hello?”
Then he knocked on the door, his voice growing louder. “Gale, go to the hospital.”
Confused, Gale opened the door slightly. “What happened?”
“The dean’s condition has suddenly worsened. You need to go there and be ready to give blood at any time.”
Gale felt a surge of frustration. She had a feeling that her father and Shawn were conspiring to drain her blood even more quickly than before. After three days of this, she wasn’t sure how much longer she could handle it.
She took a deep breath, pushing her frustration aside. “Okay, let’s go.”
Shawn seemed surprised by her quick cooperation, pausing for a moment before turning away. “Come.”
At the hospital, outside the intensive care unit, Gale saw Susan still crying, her face a mask of distress. “Mr. Wood, my dad can’t be in trouble. What should I do? I’ve been worrying about it for days… I can’t eat or sleep well. I’m really afraid that my dad will leave me.”
Shawn’s voice softened as he comforted her. “It won’t.”
Susan, taking advantage of the situation, leaned against him, holding him tightly, not letting go. Shawn frowned deeply but didn’t push her away.
Just then, the doctor appeared, his face serious as he relayed the situation. “The patient’s condition is still relatively dangerous. The bloodstock in the city is not enough for the time being, so…” The implication was clear. Gale was needed.
