Chapter 47
“Hey? It’s not here?” Paula’s voice was filled with disbelief as she looked at Gale’s empty wrist.
“Aunt Paula, why are you asking about that jade bracelet?” Gale asked, trying to feign confusion. After all, the jade bracelet belonged to her mother, not Paula.
Paula’s face twisted in anger. “I like it and I want it! That jade is transparent and has been well cared for by its previous owners. Wearing it brings blessings and prevents disasters… Forget it, it’s no use telling you.”
Gale suddenly smiled, an idea forming in her mind. “I know where the jade bracelet is.”
Paula perked up, eager for more information. “Where?”
Gale replied with a casual tone, “Shawn gave it to a… female internet celebrity. She’s been showing it off to everyone.”
Paula’s eyes widened, and her mouth dropped open in shock. “What? A random woman outside?”
“Yeah, Shawn has always been generous to outsiders,” Gale sighed deliberately. “Aunt Paula, you know how generous men are to outsiders, especially a rich man like Shawn. He’s handsome too, after all.”
Paula’s frustration was palpable. “He gave it to a random woman and not to his own stepmother?”
Gale nodded sympathetically. “Aunt Paula, you’re an elder, and you want a jade bracelet… Go and get it! How dare a woman like her fight with you for it? The fate of the jade depends on you.”
Paula, considering Gale’s words, felt that they made a lot of sense. “Who is that girl? What’s her name, and where does she live?”
“Susan,” Gale answered with a small, satisfied smile.
Paula’s eyes lit up when she heard the name. She now had a clear target. She turned away with a grin on her face, confident she could get her hands on the bracelet. After all, what could a mere mistress do to her? Shawn certainly wouldn’t go to war over a simple jade bracelet.
Gale watched Paula walk away, knowing that the jade bracelet would soon be in Paula’s hands. The woman would cherish it far more than Susan ever could. And, when the time was right, Gale would make sure to get it back.
With a quiet sense of determination, Gale turned around to head off, but—
“Ouch!”
She collided hard with someone, nearly breaking her nose in the process.
“Are you blind?” Shawn’s voice came from above her, cold and irritated.
Gale frowned and rubbed her nose, her frustration rising. “You were the one who kept quiet, standing behind me!”
Shawn raised an eyebrow, clearly unimpressed. “You dare blame me?”
“Of course… um, of course, it’s my fault,” Gale stammered, quickly shifting her tone to avoid further conflict.
She took a sharp turn and saw at least ten people standing behind Shawn. Among them were Assistant Fiona, the company secretary, Joe, and various executives.
“President Wood, please,” Gale said politely, stepping aside. “I was in the way. Sorry.”
Shawn studied her silently, his eyes narrowing slightly. There was something different about her today. Her eyes, once filled with a certain blankness, were now sharp—cunning, smart, and almost… elf-like. It reminded him of the spirit she had when they first met, a spirit he had since extinguished with his own hands.
“Let’s have a meeting together, Mrs. Warm. You can’t be absent from the discussion regarding Lovito,” Joe said, breaking the silence.
“Okay, Mr. Joe,” Gale replied, nodding.
“Is your design ready?” Joe asked.
Gale nodded confidently. “I’ve prepared a presentation just for this.”
“Great! You’ll amaze everyone!” Joe grinned, clearly proud of her. “I’ve spoken highly of you to everyone here!”
“I won’t let you down,” Gale responded, her voice steady. She walked to the front of the room silently, her expression calm.
In the conference room, the meeting began. Shawn sat at the head of the table, his gaze lingering on Gale as she stood beside him, ready to begin her presentation.
