Chapter 43
One day, Gale promised herself, she would throw the evidence in Shawn’s face and tell him she never owed him anything. That day would come, and when it did, she would make him pay for everything he had done to her.
Back at Temperley Hall, Shawn roughly threw Gale into the bathtub. The water splashed around her as she struggled to stay above the surface, swallowing several sips of water in the process. She tried to climb out of the tub, but Shawn forcefully pushed her back in.
“Clean up,” he ordered coldly.
After several rounds of this, Shawn himself was drenched, but he showed no sign of caring. Gale, weakened and drained, finally gave up. She slumped, exhausted, and lay on the edge of the bathtub, too tired to fight anymore.
Shawn bent down and gripped her chin, forcing her to look at him. “Listen,” he said, his voice harsh. “The Wood Group is holding a press conference tomorrow to announce the creation of its new jewelry brand, Lovito, which will officially compete with Carson Group’s Fantastic Jewels.”
Gale’s heart skipped a beat, and Shawn continued, his tone menacing. “If you and Sam dare to communicate privately again, I’ll make sure you’re both identified as commercial spies. Lovito will outshine Fantastic Jewels, and Sam’s life will be ruined! I’ll make sure of it.”
Gale, instead of feeling fear, suddenly laughed.
Shawn’s grip tightened on her chin as he demanded, “What are you laughing at?”
She raised her head, staring at him with defiance in her eyes. “Shawn, are you jealous?”
He was taken aback, momentarily stunned. “Why would I be jealous?” he scoffed.
“But you look like a man who’s madly in love,” Gale mocked, continuing, “You don’t love me, so why are you so angry?”
“Because you’re mine,” Shawn growled. “Your soul will still belong to me after you die!”
Gale raised her hand and gripped his wrist, deliberately provoking him. “Shawn… You’re so possessive of me. I’m really afraid that one day, you’ll fall in love with me.”
“Even if all the women in the world were dead, I wouldn’t touch you,” Shawn snapped, shaking her off as he strode away from her.
Gale breathed a sigh of relief. She knew she had to be cautious in the future, to prevent Susan from framing her again.
The press conference for Lovito was a success. Shawn attended in person, and Joe was there as well. The announcement confirmed that the Wood family was backing the new jewelry brand Lovito, showing their commitment to making it a major competitor in the industry.
The news sent shockwaves through the market, and Carson Group’s stock price plummeted immediately.
In the staff cafeteria, Gale sat with her lunch, watching the live broadcast of the press conference. Summer sat down across from her, glancing at her plate with a raised eyebrow. “Is that all you’re eating? Not even a piece of meat?”
“I’m trying to be a vegetarian,” Gale replied, but Summer wasn’t convinced.
“Put that nonsense down,” Summer huffed, knowing that Gale’s meal card was empty. “Stop pretending.”
Summer added some chicken and beef to Gale’s plate, despite her protests.
Gale was overwhelmed but thankful. “Thank you, Summer.”
“Eat,” Summer urged, shaking her head. “You’re way too thin.”
Gale smiled faintly. “I’ll try.”
Summer poked at her rice, looking thoughtful. “I don’t even know why I’m always so nice to you.”
Gale leaned over and hugged her. “Summer, it’s really nice to have you here with me.”
“Seriously, Gale, do you still want me as a friend?” Summer asked, her voice full of teasing.
“Yes! Yes!” Gale nodded eagerly.
Summer grinned. “Okay, then you can’t leave me in the future without saying goodbye!”
Gale’s eyes filled with tears at the warmth in Summer’s voice. “Okay…”
Summer gave her a playful, disgusted look. “Gale, why are you so weak? Why are you crying?”
Gale smiled through her tears, her heart touched by Summer’s care.
At that moment, Susan walked up to them, her voice dripping with sarcasm. “Gale, it’s amazing that you’re still able to smile. If I were you, I’d be hiding from the shame.”
