Chapter 29
Susan’s intentions were clear—she wanted to make Gale miscarry with that kick. And it seemed she had succeeded.
“You should get rid of the child,” Susan sneered, her voice sharp. “Gale, you can’t even protect yourself. That child will only be a burden.”
Gale shook her head vehemently. “No, you have no right to decide the life or death of my child!”
“Then don’t blame me for what happens next!” Susan snapped, turning on her heel to leave.
But Gale wasn’t ready to let her go just yet. She called after her, desperation in her voice. “Wait! Do you… do you know who the father is?”
That night, Gale had been tricked out of the mental hospital by the dean and sent to a hotel. The dean had to know the truth. After all, Susan was the dean’s daughter. She must know something about the secret.
“Of course, I know,” Susan replied with a smirk, her voice dripping with sarcasm. “It’s only you who doesn’t.”
“Who is it?” Gale demanded, her eyes burning with a need for answers. “Who was there that night?”
Susan let out a laugh, cold and mocking. “Give up. You’ll never know. I advise you to get rid of the child quickly before you cause more trouble for yourself.”
She turned to walk away, but Gale refused to let her go.
The truth was so close, within her grasp.
Suddenly, Susan cried out in a pitiful voice. “You scratched me! I’ve already apologized! Why are you attacking me like this…”
Shawn, who had been walking nearby, immediately shot Gale a sharp look as he heard her words. But Gale wasn’t concerned with his gaze. Her mind was still fixated on the identity of the man from that night.
“Tell me!” Gale gripped Susan tightly, desperation lacing her tone. “Who was he? Who was the man that night?”
“You hurt me!” Susan whimpered, trying to pull away.
“Speak! Answer me!” Gale demanded, her grip tightening. Susan struggled against her, but Gale wouldn’t let go.
“Ah!” Susan screamed as she lost her balance, tumbling down the steps and rolling down one step at a time.
Gale froze, her heart skipping a beat. “Susan!”
Shawn quickly stepped forward, scooping Susan up into his arms, his gaze cold as he looked down at Gale.
“It hurts, it hurts so much…” Susan cried, her tears soaking Shawn’s shirt. “I was just trying to apologize. It’s fine if she doesn’t accept it, but she didn’t have to push me like that…”
“I’ll take you to the hospital,” Shawn said, his voice calm but filled with authority.
Gale snapped back into reality and hurried to explain, “No! I didn’t push her, Shawn. I didn’t!”
Shawn’s gaze turned dark, and his voice was laced with accusation. “I saw it with my own eyes. Are you still denying it?”
“I swear, I didn’t push her! I was just trying to stop her from leaving!” Gale pleaded.
But Susan, still in Shawn’s arms, continued to cry. “She didn’t forgive me, but why would she hurt me like this? Gale, I want to enter the entertainment industry. If I break a bone or get disfigured, my career will be ruined!”
Shawn, clearly irritated, commanded, “Come here.”
With great reluctance, Gale took a slow, painful step down the stairs. She opened her mouth to speak, but before she could get a word out, Shawn’s hand shot to her neck, cutting off her breath.
“You’re getting worse and worse, Gale,” Shawn growled, his fingers tightening around her throat. “You really think I wouldn’t do anything to you? Where do you get your confidence from?”
“I never thought that…” Gale gasped, struggling to breathe.
Shawn’s grip tightened, his words venomous. “I’ve been so good to you, and this is how you repay me? You slap me in the face?”
Gale struggled, trying to free herself, her vision beginning to blur. But despite the suffocating pressure, she managed to speak, her voice weak but defiant. “Are you good to me? Shawn, you’re the one who dragged me from heaven to hell!”
Shawn’s face twisted with disgust. “That’s what you deserve!”
“Even if my father killed your father,” Gale continued, her voice barely a whisper, “that was a grudge between our fathers. Why are you putting it on me?”
