Chapter 18
Gale was too tired to keep arguing with him, turning her head away. Shawn had such a handsome face, but his words were cutting!
“Follow me,” Shawn ordered, his voice low.
Reluctantly, Gale walked toward the door of the master bedroom. She was about to open the quilt when her waist was suddenly gripped, and he shoved her against the wall.
“I’ve given you twenty thousand dollars. You need to fulfill your duties as my wife,” he said hoarsely.
Gale froze. “You… are you serious?”
Shawn’s gaze darkened. “What? You took the money and now you don’t want to do anything? Huh?”
Nervously, Gale scratched her palm. “Shawn, you won’t touch me.”
“Really? Then, try me,” he threatened as his hand began to move.
“Shawn…” Gale hesitated, her voice trembling. “I’m the daughter of your enemy. Can you really do this?”
The atmosphere shifted instantly, thick with tension. Gale had no choice but to provoke him, hoping it would protect her—for now.
Shawn’s sneer deepened. “Thank you for the reminder,” he said coldly, his grip tightening at the back of her head. “But don’t think you have any say in this.”
“I’ll pay you back later,” Gale murmured, trying to bargain.
“If you please me, you won’t owe me a thing,” he said, his voice cruel.
Gale’s eyes widened at his words. He was making it clear—she had no choice in this.
Shawn’s gaze darkened further. “From the day you fell into my hands, you lost the right to choose. Understand?”
Gale understood all too well what he meant by ‘please him.’
“Do it now,” Shawn ordered.
Gale gritted her teeth, trying to gather the courage. “You can go to Susan.”
Shawn raised an eyebrow in annoyance. “Why would I go to her?”
“Because it’s meant for the wedding night…” Gale whispered, her heart sinking. “You deserve to be defiled, but I don’t.”
With that, Gale closed her eyes, bracing herself for what was to come. But suddenly, she was violently thrown out of his reach.
Shawn’s fury was palpable. “You’re so easy, Gale.”
Her back slammed into the corner of the bed, the pain sharp—but somehow, it felt like a small victory. He had finally grown tired of her. Relief flooded her, even as she lay there, disoriented.
Her chest tightened as she felt his presence loom over her again. Despite the pain, Shawn’s desire flared, and it was clear he wasn’t finished with her yet.
After a moment of hesitation, he called William, speaking quickly. “Do the medicines you sent me have side effects?”
“There is a slight one…” William replied.
Shawn’s impatience grew. “Tell me, William.”
“The medicine will increase your sexual appetite,” William explained casually.
Shawn’s face hardened with irritation. “Why didn’t you tell me earlier?”
William continued, “It’s a normal reaction. You’re young and in your prime. I recommend you get checked at the hospital. Your sperm count has likely improved.”
Furious, Shawn slammed the phone down and pressed his foot to the accelerator. The sound of his sports car echoed through the night as he sped away from Temperley Hall. At the VIP booth of a bar, Shawn drank his frustration away, his mind spinning.
Joe yawned beside him. “You’re married now. How can you still be out drinking so late? Aren’t you worried your wife will get angry?”
“Shut up,” Shawn snapped, irritated.
Joe grinned. “You’ll end up back in bed with her, no matter how much you fight.”
Shawn scowled. “I have no relationship with her.”
Joe smirked knowingly. “You can’t fool me. I can see it in your eyes. Love can’t be faked.”
Shawn let out a harsh laugh. “Love? For Gale? Ridiculous.”
Joe shrugged, unbothered. “You’re crazy, man,” he said before heading off to dance with some beautiful women on the floor.
The next morning, Gale was jolted from her thoughts by a call from the hospital.
“We have the results of your examination. Come pick them up.”
Confused, Gale arrived at the nurse’s station and collected her test results. She opened the envelope, her hands trembling, her eyes scanning the paper in disbelief.
“Four weeks pregnant.”
The words blurred before her eyes. She had only spent one night with that strange man, and now… this child was his? She didn’t even know his name. Panic gripped her chest. What would she do now?
If Shawn found out…
She couldn’t even imagine the rage he would feel. But what other choice did she have? Abortion? It was costly, risky, and physically taxing. Gale couldn’t afford it—and worse, she couldn’t bring herself to do it. This was her child.
But how could she raise a child, when she could barely protect herself?
“Baby, it’s too late for you,” she whispered, her hand gently resting on her abdomen.
She was lost in her thoughts when she accidentally bumped into a few people. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” she mumbled, her mind still spinning.
From a distance, Susan spotted Gale. Something didn’t sit right with her. She quickly approached the nurse’s station, pretending concern. “That woman, Gale Warm… is she sick?”
The nurse hesitated, then said, “I’m sorry, but patient privacy cannot be disclosed.”
Susan smiled slyly, slipping a few bills into the nurse’s hand. “I’m just worried about her. Please help.”
The nurse leaned in, whispering, “Pregnant. Four weeks.”
Susan’s face went white. Gale was pregnant—and it was Shawn’s child!
As soon as Gale exited the hospital, her phone rang. Shawn’s voice came through, sharp and commanding. “Where are you? Get back here now.”
“Okay.” Gale’s heart raced as she hurried to return.
When she entered Temperley Hall, the smell of alcohol hit her immediately. Shawn was drunk, and his temper was even worse. He fumed at her, and his anger only grew when he realized he’d been drinking because of her.
“What’s wrong with you?” he snapped. “Why do I have to suppress my desires for you? You’re not even worthy of it.”
Gale was almost too tired to respond. “So you went drinking last night?”
He gestured for her to come closer. As soon as she stepped toward him, he pulled her into his arms.
“Yes, I’m drunk,” he said with a dark chuckle. “But you… you’re the reason for all this.”
He began to lean in, but in the chaos, Gale’s bag slipped open, and the pregnancy test results fell out.
Her heart stopped. The report—she had forgotten to tear it up!
Shawn’s eyes flicked to the paper, and his gaze turned icy. Gale’s pulse raced, fear flooding her chest.
