Chapter 97
Nicole heard Jack’s words and slowly turned to face him.
Her eyes held no emotion, as though she were simply observing him, trying to see who he really was.
Bradley, sitting beside Nicole, stood up in her defense.
“Who are you calling cold-blooded? When Nicole and I were attacked by Cain, I saw some of you nearby.
Did any of you come to help us? If it weren’t for Nicole, I might still be in the hospital.
What has she done to deserve being accused of being cold-blooded and violent?”
Jack was left speechless, realizing his own fault in the situation.
He knew that Nicole had initially refused their protection, but they could have at least helped instead of standing by and watching.
The class monitor, Vivian, who had been observing the tension, stood up to restore order.
“Bradley, just be quiet.
Jack, sit down,” she said.
As Jack reluctantly took his seat, Bradley couldn’t contain his frustration.
“It was Jack who started it.
Shouldn’t you scold him?”
Vivian, clearly irritated, shot Bradley a look of impatience.
“I know you’re on Nicole’s side, but Nicole’s actions have negatively impacted the class.
I think Jack’s words have a point.
You shouldn’t keep defending her.”
Nicole, overhearing Vivian’s words, glanced up lazily at her.
The look in her eyes made Vivian uneasy, but she pushed forward.
“I think Nicole should apologize to Gary.
Her careless words caused trouble for him.” Most of the class agreed with Vivian, and they all looked at Nicole, silently urging her to apologize.
Nicole closed the book with a snap, and just as Bradley opened his mouth to speak, she turned toward him, signaling for him to be quiet.
She then stood up and walked toward Gary in the back row, ignoring Vivian entirely.
Her cold demeanor was impossible to ignore as she approached him with a quiet intensity.
Gary watched as Nicole moved toward him, her presence both intimidating and strangely beautiful.
As she leaned over his desk, her voice was low, yet filled with authority.
“Gary, when did I ever say I needed you to win the bet?” The entire class fell silent, surprised by her directness.
Gary, caught off guard, felt his face flush.
He had simply been trying to help her, yet her words felt harsh and ungrateful.
Vivian, seeing Nicole’s confrontation with Gary, became even more agitated.
“Nicole, don’t you think you’ve gone too far? Everyone knows your level.
Who do you think you are, thinking you can get first place in the Math Olympiad? The mayor is paying attention to this year’s competition and will be presenting the awards.
It’s fine if you don’t appreciate Gary’s help, but you shouldn’t question him.
You’re hopeless.”
Nicole didn’t even acknowledge Vivian.
Instead, she kept her gaze fixed on Gary, her words cold and sharp.
“Gary, you need to realize that it’s not just about what you think.
You should consider whether others actually need your help.” Her meaning was clear: she didn’t need his help at all.
