Chapter 86
Raine sneered, her voice dripping with disdain.
“What did you say?” But Nicole, with her cold, unflinching stare, didn’t hesitate.
“I asked you to pick it up.
Do you understand English?”
Raine, taken aback by Nicole’s icy tone, felt a wave of inferiority wash over her.
But the feeling quickly morphed into anger.
“How dare you ask if I understand your English! As expected, village people are uncivilized!” she spat, her words loud and full of venom.
Her outburst echoed through the cafeteria, drawing the attention of nearby students.
Nicole, however, remained unfazed, her gaze unyielding.
She spotted June coming back with the food and couldn’t help but frown.
Nicole’s voice rang clear and strong as she confronted Raine.
“If I’m uncivilized just by saying that, then what about you? You threw away someone’s bag and mocked those who dine here.
Is that what a civilized person does?” Her words carried weight, and the surrounding students overheard the confrontation.
Whispers began to spread through the crowd.
“Isn’t that Raine? She actually said that? Who does she think she is? I’m embarrassed to admit I used to admire her.”
“Yeah, she threw the bag to the floor, then took the seat just to block others from sitting.
She’s the one who’s uncivilized.”
“I’ve never liked Nicole, but this time, Raine really went too far.
I saw her throw the bag myself.
How can she call herself a campus queen when she behaves like this?”
Raine, hearing the murmurs of the crowd, felt the weight of their judgment.
This wasn’t how she imagined the situation would unfold.
She had only wanted to warn Nicole, but now she was the center of unwanted attention.
Her face flushed with embarrassment, and she could no longer hold her ground.
“Nicole, you better watch out!” Raine spat, her voice shaky, as she quickly turned to leave.
The humiliation was too much for her to bear, and she couldn’t face the crowd any longer.
But before she could walk away, Nicole grabbed her sleeve, stopping her in her tracks.
“You threw someone’s things on the ground and didn’t even bother to pick them up.
Is that how the Riddles raised you? Maybe I should ask your grandpa about this.”
The mention of her grandfather hit a nerve.
Raine’s eyes widened with panic.
Her grandfather was strict about family reputation, and he couldn’t stand behavior like this.
If Nicole went to him, it would spell trouble for her.
Reluctantly, Raine bent down and picked up June’s bag with two fingers, as if it were contaminated.
She tossed it back onto the seat, then quickly wiped her hands, visibly disgusted.
“Can I leave now?” she asked, her voice tight with frustration.
But Nicole’s sharp eyes had noticed that the bag had been swung open, and its contents had spilled onto the ground.
Her expression darkened, and her under-eye twitched slightly.
June, who had just returned, was shocked to see the state of her bag.
Nicole, her patience running thin, turned Raine around and faced her toward June.
“Apologize to her,” she demanded, her tone cold and commanding.
Raine, still reeling from the situation, stared at June with disdain.
“So that piece of junk belongs to you, huh? Why should I apologize to someone like you?”
June, holding her plate, tightened her grip, her face showing a mix of disbelief and frustration.
She had picked the best food for Nicole, wanting to make this a pleasant meal, but now this situation was ruining everything.
She set her plate down carefully, making sure not to spill any of the food.
Then, she knelt down to pick up the scattered contents of her bag.
