Chapter 44
“Impossible!” Snow thought, though she couldn’t help but continue to look at Nicole with worry-filled eyes after a brief pause.
“Then, is Cain really in the hospital now?” While Snow didn’t voice the question aloud, her expression clearly asked, “Did you beat him?”
Nicole met Snow’s odd gaze coldly.
By the time Snow had fallen into a daze, Nicole had already finished her food and, tired of the pretentious act, didn’t want to stick around.
“Didn’t I say you should ask him instead? I’m done eating, so I’ll be leaving now,” Nicole said flatly.
With that, Nicole stood up and walked away, leaving Snow to watch her leave in stunned silence.
Snow’s eyes widened in disbelief.
Who on earth is Nicole? How did she defeat that evil Cain?!
Nicole exited the cafeteria and reflected on what Ms.
Emerson had mentioned earlier about attending the Maths Olympiad training sessions on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
Since it was Tuesday, Nicole turned toward the lecture hall.
Gary, who had also left the cafeteria after his meal, watched Nicole walk confidently ahead and squinted slightly.
He had witnessed the whole exchange between Nicole and Snow and caught the sight of Snow’s agape mouth after Nicole had left.
This piqued his curiosity about their conversation.
A smile tugged at Gary’s lips as he saw Nicole so unfazed by the incident.
He casually followed her, making sure to keep a short distance between them.
As they neared the lecture hall, Gary quickened his pace and entered just as Nicole did.
Raine, who was already in the class, saw Gary enter and was surprised at first, but her expression soured when she noticed Nicole walking in behind him.
She fought to keep her jealousy in check and asked Nicole, “Why are you here, Nicole? This class is exclusively for students joining the Maths Olympiad competition!”
Nicole gave her an indifferent look and said nothing.
Gary, sensing the tension, replied to Raine instead, “We’re joining the competition on behalf of our class.
Ms.
Emerson told us to attend together.”
Raine eyed them both suspiciously, noticing how protective Gary seemed of Nicole.
Her gaze toward Nicole turned even more hostile.
Nicole, unfazed, glanced at Gary after hearing his response.
She was aware that he had been following her, but didn’t care since he had kept his distance.
Now that he had mentioned Ms.
Emerson’s request for them to attend the class together, Nicole saw no reason to expose him.
Nicole walked to the last row of seats, while Raine, frustrated by Gary’s attention on Nicole, began to speak to him.
However, Gary seemed oblivious, his gaze fixed on Nicole as he ignored Raine.
Annoyed, Raine raised her voice, “Gary, I’m talking to you! Why did you come here with her?”
Gary frowned, now fully aware of how irritating and unreasonable Raine could be.
If he had known earlier, he would have avoided spending so much time with her.
He started heading toward the back of the room, but Raine, suddenly agitated, rushed over and dragged him toward the first row.
Coincidentally, the school bell rang at that moment, and Gary didn’t bother to push her away.
Just then, a bald man hurried into the room, stepping onto the stage to introduce himself.
“Hello, students.
I’m Mr.
Louis, your teacher for this Maths Olympiad training class.
I believe you are all elite students from your classes.
I’ll skip the unnecessary introductions and hand out last year’s example questions.
We’ll go over the solutions in the first half of the class.
For the second half, we’ll have a test to assess your level.”
As he spoke, he handed out the pile of example questions and answer sheets.
Nicole glanced at the questions, raised an eyebrow, and casually tucked them into her bag.
She then filled in all the sections of…
