Chapter 100
Snow was taking a step forward, clearly frustrated that Harvey was not being as forceful as she had expected.
Her face tightened, but she held back from further interrupting, looking instead at Nicole as if she was waiting for her to cower under the pressure.
Nicole, however, stood her ground, her posture unwavering.
Nicole’s eyes flicked to Harvey, then to Snow, her lips curling into a faint smile, one that was more out of amusement than anything else.
“Apologize?” she repeated the word slowly, as if testing its taste.
“I think you’ve misunderstood.”
Harvey’s expression hardened as he noticed the lack of fear or remorse in Nicole’s gaze.
“You don’t think you owe them an apology for your actions?” he asked, his tone now more serious, though still laced with a semblance of politeness.
Nicole tilted her head, looking at him with a mix of curiosity and indifference.
“Actions? You’re still talking about that?” she asked, the words more rhetorical than anything else.
“If I remember correctly, I didn’t do anything wrong.”
The audacity of Nicole’s response took Harvey by surprise, and for a moment, he hesitated.
He had expected her to at least show some acknowledgment of the situation, to demonstrate a hint of guilt, but instead, she remained unyielding.
Lulu, sensing the building tension, whispered nervously from behind Nicole, “Nicole, maybe you should just apologize.
It’s Harvey… you know how important he is…”
Nicole’s gaze never wavered from Harvey, and she spoke quietly, but firmly, “If Harvey wants an apology, he’ll have to earn it.” She could feel the shift in the atmosphere as the others in the cafeteria watched intently, waiting for Harvey’s next move.
Harvey blinked, taken aback by her words, but he didn’t let his composure slip.
“Earn it?” he echoed, his voice now cold.
“You think I need to earn your apology?”
Nicole met his icy gaze with a calm smile, unfazed by his shift in tone.
“You may be Mr.
Ellison’s grandson, but that doesn’t mean you get to dictate terms to everyone around here.
I’ll apologize when I see fit, not because you ask me to.”
For a moment, the tension between them was palpable, like a drawn-out pause before a storm.
Snow, still standing nearby, felt a surge of anger bubbling up inside her.
“You’re really something, aren’t you, Nicole?” she snapped, unable to hold back any longer.
Nicole’s smile widened, though her eyes remained sharp.
“I’m just being honest,” she replied coolly.
Harvey took a breath, trying to regain control of the situation.
The audience around them was hushed, sensing that this moment could escalate quickly.
He didn’t want to lose face in front of everyone, but neither did he want to back down too easily.
“Nicole, you’re really going to let this go on like this?” he asked, his voice laced with frustration, but still attempting to keep his cool.
Nicole simply shook her head.
“I’m not letting anything go on.
You and Snow can think whatever you want.
I’m not here to please anyone, especially not you.”
The silence stretched on, and it became clear that neither side was willing to give in.
Harvey’s posture stiffened, and for a brief moment, it seemed like he might say something else—but instead, he turned away, his lips tight with barely concealed irritation.
Snow, now visibly upset, followed closely behind him, her eyes shooting daggers at Nicole as they walked off.
Nicole watched them leave, her expression remaining unchanged.
As the commotion in the cafeteria gradually resumed, Lulu let out a relieved breath, though she was still a little rattled by the confrontation.
“That was intense,” she muttered, still glancing at Nicole.
Nicole just nodded, her focus already elsewhere.
She had no interest in making peace with Harvey or Snow—her stance was clear.
The crowd slowly began to disperse, but the whispers about the encounter would undoubtedly linger long after they were gone.
