Chapter 51
Ashley’s face twisted with shock as she felt the impact of Nicole’s push.
The force had made her spine feel as if it were being shattered into pieces.
But what terrified her more than the physical pain was the icy coldness in Nicole’s eyes, as if she would have no qualms about killing her if she dared to keep fighting.
“P*ss off!” Nicole said, wiping her hands with a tissue before tossing it into the trashcan.
The girls who had been knocked down didn’t dare to resist anymore.
They immediately rushed to help Ashley to her feet, their faces pale with fear.
“We… we’ll leave now,” they muttered, eyes wide with terror.
For the first time, they found themselves on the receiving end of fear instead of dishing it out.
With their backs pressed to the wall, they scurried out of the classroom, but not without one last attempt at intimidation.
“Nicole, this isn’t over!” Ashley called out, her voice trembling with fury.
“When Harvey comes back and hears about what you did to Snow, he won’t let you get away with it.
Just wait and see!” With that, she fled with her friends.
Nicole, unfazed by their threats, simply brushed off the dust on her desk and returned to her medical book, picking up right where she left off.
She sat back down, as composed and unbothered as ever.
The class was eerily silent.
The students, who had been whispering and gossiping about Nicole for days, now sat frozen in their seats, nervous and unsure of what to make of the situation.
They had witnessed Ashley, the so-called queen of the school, being completely defeated by Nicole.
The thought crossed many of their minds: What if we end up like them?
Jack observed the silent class, a smirk on his lips.
The students were clearly shaken by the scene.
They had never seen someone, especially a girl, take down over ten people so effortlessly.
Nicole had only used one hand to defeat those girls, and still, they were terrified.
But Jack, ever the realist, knew they had only brought it on themselves.
But then something strange happened inside Jack.
He froze for a moment, realizing that he was subconsciously defending Nicole.
Why am I thinking like this? he wondered.
Normally, he would never think twice about someone from the countryside, but Nicole was different.
Despite her cold exterior, she wasn’t as difficult to be around as he initially thought.
She had shown kindness to Lulu and Bradley, and her skills were undeniable.
Even Gary, who had been so confident in his strength, couldn’t match her.
Jack also realized that her academic performance wasn’t as bad as he once believed.
Jack’s gaze shifted back to Nicole, who was leaning casually on her hand, her chin resting as she read.
She wore a simple white T-shirt, but with her black hair cascading around her face, her radiant, fair skin seemed to glow under the sunlight.
Her fox-like eyes were slightly narrowed as she absorbed her book, and in that moment, she seemed utterly laid-back and at peace, as if she were a painting.
Jack found himself once again captivated by her beauty.
Nicole’s features were sharper than Snow and Raine’s—her face smaller, her eyelashes perkier, her nose more defined.
She was striking from every angle, and her figure was nothing short of perfect.
If he had to rate her, she’d be a solid 10, no question about it.
She was far from the stereotypical “country girl” he had imagined.
As Jack was lost in his thoughts, Gary suddenly kicked his chair from behind with enough force to almost knock Jack over.
Surprised, Jack turned to face Gary, who was staring back at him with a blank expression.
Jack quickly adjusted himself and asked, “What’s up, Gary?”
Gary merely shrugged, his voice casual.
“Nothing much.
My leg just got itchy.” Wayne, sitting next to them, burst out laughing, sensing the tension between the two.
Jack couldn’t help but feel a little uneasy.
Gary wasn’t usually this offhand, especially with him.
He was sure he hadn’t done anything recently to make Gary upset, so why the sudden coldness?
Wayne, ever the troublemaker, added with a grin, “I think Gary’s still holding a grudge because you didn’t let him beat up Cain last time.
Nicole ended up taking the spotlight, and I bet that’s been eating at him.”
Jack’s brow furrowed slightly.
He hadn’t thought of it that way, but the possibility that Gary was upset about that incident did make sense.
Nicole had definitely stolen the show that day, and maybe Gary wasn’t too thrilled about it.
