Chapter 70
Though Mr.
Ellison had only met Jared a few times, every interaction left a strong impression of his commanding presence.
‘This young man, Jared, definitely has a bright future,’ Mr.
Ellison thought to himself as Jared stood up with a grace that was unmistakable.
As Jared walked slowly toward the end of Mr.
Ellison’s long office desk, the massive floor-to-ceiling window next to it bathed him in sunlight.
The brilliance of the sun made him appear almost glowing.
Mr.
Ellison’s office was on the top floor, giving them a clear view of Royal Creek Institute’s entire campus.
Jared stopped in front of the window, his chuckle breaking the silence.
“Mr.
Ellison, I want to invest in your school.”
Mr.
Ellison, confused about the sudden declaration, immediately became alert.
His thoughts turned to the possibility that Jared wanted something from him.
“Why are you saying this all of a sudden, Mr.
Johnston?” he asked.
Jared turned to face Mr.
Ellison, his charming features illuminated by the sun on one side and shadowed on the other, creating a striking contrast.
He smiled, his eyes gleaming with something almost too perfect to be real.
“It’s obviously because Royal Creek Institute has a lot of potentials.”
Jared’s mind, however, wasn’t solely on the school.
He was thinking about someone in particular.
‘You even have a genius like Lucifer,’ he thought to himself.
The thought of Lucifer reminded him of the loss he had suffered—a hundred million dollars he couldn’t recover.
Jared’s search for Lucifer had become more concentrated, and he believed that keeping an eye on Royal Creek Institute would bring him closer to catching Lucifer.
Mr.
Ellison hesitated, unsure of how to handle the situation.
He did not want to offend someone as powerful as Jared.
After a brief pause, he slowly replied, “Mr.
Johnston, this is something long-term.
Give me some time to consider it.”
The Johnston Group was a major entity with strong divisions, and Mr.
Ellison needed time to weigh his options carefully.
Jared, sensing Mr.
Ellison’s concerns, nodded in understanding.
“Sure, I hope you can give me a satisfactory response, Mr.
Ellison.” With that, he made his way out of the office, leaving Mr.
Ellison with a mix of admiration and unease.
Jared’s return as the unofficial heir of the Johnston family had already caused quite a stir in San Joto, and Mr.
Ellison, who hadn’t yet risen to prominence in Hustuaburg, felt a slight sense of fear when dealing with him.
As Mr.
Ellison walked Jared out, he couldn’t help but think about the younger man’s words.
His frown deepened as he considered the future implications.
Meanwhile, Nicole was unaware of the conversation happening in Mr.
Ellison’s office.
She was on her way back to her dorm, unsure of where to study the example math problems.
After all, she had made a bold promise in front of everyone—she had promised that she would secure first place in the Math Olympiad competition.
If she didn’t put in the effort like any other student, she risked another failure.
She was frustrated, unaware that Gary was already waiting for her in the lecture hall.
“The class is about to start, so why hasn’t Nicole come yet?” Gary wondered aloud, growing impatient.
Nicole, as stubborn as ever, had bet with Mr.
Kennedy earlier that day that she would take first place in the competition.
Yet, here she was, missing class.
Gary, frustrated, thought to himself, ‘With her standard—she got a zero—does she really think she can win by self-studying?’
His mind drifted back to the previous conversation, and he questioned himself, wondering if he had been too harsh on Nicole.
“How fragile.
I’ve only questioned Nicole a little, and now she doesn’t want to come to class,” he muttered, focusing on the class, but his thoughts were elsewhere.
Raine, sitting next to him, overheard his remark and noticed that Nicole had indeed not shown up.
Connecting the dots, she realized Gary had been waiting for Nicole.
Her eyes filled with jealousy and frustration as she thought, ‘What’s so special about Nicole? Why is she always on Gary’s mind?’
Raine couldn’t shake off the image of Nicole.
Her mind flashed back to Nicole’s words, calling her a vixen.
Raine, consumed with jealousy, couldn’t understand why someone like Nicole always seemed to be at the center of attention.
