Chapter 64
Nicole’s eyes narrowed as she scanned the girl in front of her, her expression growing colder.
The fat girl stood there, arms crossed, as if she held all the power.
Nicole had been in situations like this before, but today, she wasn’t in the mood to let someone push her around for no reason.
Lulu, still flustered, glanced nervously at Nicole, unsure of what to say or do.
June, however, seemed unbothered by the confrontation, her posture rigid as she stood beside Nicole.
“Ten points for what?” Nicole asked, her voice calm but laced with a hint of irritation.
The fat girl sneered, her eyes scanning Nicole’s face as though she had already judged her.
“For being slow,” she said, as though it were obvious.
“You should know the rules by now.”
Nicole felt a wave of disbelief wash over her.
She was being penalized for simply not rushing out the door at the exact moment someone else thought was appropriate? It was absurd.
She clenched her fists slightly, but kept her demeanor cool, not wanting to escalate things unnecessarily.
Lulu, who had been nervously shifting from foot to foot, spoke up hesitantly.
“We were just cleaning, and we—”
“Silence!” the fat girl snapped.
“If you can’t keep up with the schedule, you’ll lose points.
End of discussion.”
Nicole’s eyes flicked over to June, who seemed to be observing the entire scene with a quiet detachment.
She was either used to this kind of petty behavior or simply didn’t care.
Nicole couldn’t tell which, but she decided not to waste any more time arguing.
“Fine,” Nicole said simply, her voice dripping with irony.
“Take your points.
I don’t need them.”
The fat girl’s face twisted in confusion for a second, clearly not expecting such a response.
She probably thought she could provoke some kind of reaction from Nicole, but the latter wasn’t playing along.
“Are you sure you want to let this slide?” the fat girl asked, her tone a little less smug now.
“You could have just complied and saved yourself some trouble.”
Nicole gave her a cold look, not bothering to respond.
She turned to leave, with June following her silently.
Lulu stood there for a moment, her eyes darting between the two groups, before she hurriedly followed them out of the room.
As they walked down the hall, Lulu whispered to Nicole, “What just happened? Why didn’t you fight back?”
Nicole didn’t answer immediately, choosing instead to focus on the distant sounds of laughter and chatter coming from the other dorms.
Finally, she spoke, her voice quiet but firm.
“Some battles aren’t worth fighting, Lulu.
This is one of them.”
June, who had been walking behind them, looked at Nicole with an unreadable expression.
It wasn’t clear whether she agreed with Nicole’s decision or simply didn’t care.
But something about the way she observed Nicole made the latter feel as though she was being scrutinized more than usual.
The tension in the air was thick, but it was quickly broken when they reached the stairwell.
A group of girls from another dorm looked over curiously as Nicole passed, but none dared to say anything.
Nicole didn’t care for their attention.
Instead, she remained silent, her mind already moving on from the encounter with the fat girl.
But Lulu’s voice interrupted her thoughts.
“I can’t believe she really took points away for something so small.”
Nicole glanced over at her.
“It’s not the points that matter.
It’s the principle.”
Lulu frowned, still not fully understanding Nicole’s point.
But June, who had been silent for the entire exchange, suddenly spoke up.
“It doesn’t matter.
People like her always find something to nitpick,” June said, her voice low but clear.
“You’re better off ignoring it.”
Nicole met June’s eyes for a moment, a flicker of something passing between them, before she looked away.
June’s words had an unexpected weight to them, and Nicole wondered if there was something more beneath the surface.
As they walked together, the rest of the day unfolded without further incidents, but Nicole couldn’t shake the feeling that things were beginning to change.
The encounter with the fat girl had been trivial, but it had highlighted something deeper—there were people who were always looking for reasons to tear others down.
And those people didn’t always play fair.
Nicole didn’t let it affect her, but she made a mental note to watch her back more carefully from now on.
The school year had only just begun, and she had the feeling that it was going to be full of more obstacles than she had initially anticipated.
