Nicole nodded.
Since Lulu said that the bracelet was expensive, at least worth $5,000, and that was a high enough amount to warrant contacting the police, she knew the situation needed to be handled carefully.
She turned to June.
“The Security Department won’t let us see the surveillance footage easily.
I have two ways to deal with this: one, we can call the police, but that will take time, or two, I can handle it my way and get your things back faster.” June didn’t hesitate for long and immediately chose the second option.
Nicole had anticipated her decision and took out her laptop without delay.
She turned it on and started typing.
Both June and Lulu watched her curiously, unsure of what Nicole was going to do with the old, bulky laptop.
“Nicole, what are you doing with that computer?” Lulu asked, her voice soft.
June, though she trusted Nicole, couldn’t help but wonder if she would actually be able to help.
After all, this was about retrieving something important.
But Nicole didn’t respond, her focus entirely on the screen.
Her fingers moved quickly over the keys, and before long, she had bypassed the school’s security system.
Nicole was a skilled hacker, and breaking into a surveillance system was no problem for her.
Within minutes, she had accessed the footage from the previous night.
She copied the video to local storage and erased all traces of her intrusion from the system.
When she looked up, June and Lulu were staring at her, wide-eyed.
They didn’t understand the technical jargon on the screen, but they saw the footage clearly.
Nicole had hacked into the school’s security system using nothing more than an old computer, and she had done it effortlessly.
The two girls were amazed, completely silent as they watched Nicole work.
After a few more clicks, Nicole opened the video file and motioned for them to come closer.
“Let’s watch it together,” she said.
June couldn’t wait and rushed over, with Lulu following her.
The three of them watched intently as Nicole played the footage.
As the video progressed, a few figures began to appear.
Three girls, wearing pajamas, were seen sneaking up to Nicole’s dorm room.
The lead girl took out a key, unlocked the door, and looked inside before signaling to the others.
They entered, and about ten minutes later, they hurried out of the room, leaving the door wide open.
Nicole paused the video, recognizing the three girls.
They were the third-year students who had been checking the dorms earlier.
Her face darkened as she watched the footage.
She hadn’t expected the girls to ignore Mr.
Ellison’s warning and break into her room.
The school’s surveillance footage was automatically cleared every day and a half, making it difficult to track down the culprits once the time had passed.
But she had managed to retrieve the footage in time.
Lulu, still fuming, said, “No wonder they could get into our dorm.
The third-year students live in the building next door, and it’s connected to ours by a staircase.
It’s so easy for anyone to sneak in.
Plus, they have keys since they’re in charge of dorm checks.” June nodded in agreement, but her expression showed concern.
“What should we do now? They’ve stolen from us, but they’re third-year students.
Should we just let it go? I don’t want you to get into trouble because of me.”
Nicole glanced at June, her gaze calm but firm.
“We’re not letting it go.
They’ve stolen from you, and we’re going to get it back.”
June’s worry was evident as she asked, “But they’re third-year students.
They have more influence than we do.
What if they retaliate?”
Nicole shook her head, unfazed.
“I’ll handle it.
They won’t get away with this.”
Lulu wasn’t fully convinced but knew better than to doubt Nicole.
“Are you sure? They’re not easy to deal with.”
Nicole looked at her, a slight smile playing on her lips.
“Trust me.
They won’t be able to do anything once I’m done with them.”
Both girls were quiet, watching as Nicole turned back to her computer.
She had a plan, and she wasn’t about to let the third-year students get away with stealing June’s bracelet.
The only question now was how she would make them pay.
But one thing was certain: Nicole wasn’t going to let them off the hook.
