Chapter 34
position!’ Her jealousy flared up, and she glanced at Nicole with disdain.
However, despite her growing frustration, Raine couldn’t bring herself to directly confront Nicole.
She knew Nicole was different from the other girls, and the way she carried herself made Raine uneasy.
The more Raine observed, the more she realized that Nicole wasn’t just a country girl she could look down upon.
There was something about her that commanded respect.
Gary, still lost in thought, seemed oblivious to Raine’s growing unease.
He had seen Nicole’s demeanor, her quiet confidence, and the way she had handled herself with Austin.
He couldn’t help but feel intrigued by her.
He knew that she was hiding something, something much deeper than anyone could guess.
Raine, however, was becoming more agitated by the second.
She couldn’t stand the idea of Nicole potentially drawing Gary’s attention away from her, even if she couldn’t fully understand why she felt this way.
She had worked so hard to maintain her place by Gary’s side, and now, this new girl seemed to be threatening that.
“Gary, what are you looking at?” Raine snapped, her tone sharp and demanding.
Gary blinked, snapped out of his thoughts, and turned to her.
“Oh, nothing… just… thinking about something.”
Raine’s eyes narrowed, but before she could press further, she caught sight of Austin returning with a tray of food for Nicole.
The way Austin was so focused on serving Nicole and the respect in his actions only added to the suspicion in Raine’s mind.
Gary’s gaze shifted back to Nicole as he observed the scene.
The more he saw, the more he realized that there was more to Nicole than anyone, including himself, had initially thought.
And whether he liked it or not, that made him even more curious.
Meanwhile, Nicole sat calmly at her seat, unaware of the silent tension brewing around her.
She was simply enjoying the quiet of the cafeteria, her mind elsewhere, when a tray of food was placed in front of her.
Austin had returned, his face sweaty but his smile wide.
“I got you the best ribs, Boss,” he said eagerly, his voice filled with genuine excitement.
Nicole looked at the tray of food, then glanced up at Austin, who was still standing at her side, waiting for her reaction.
“Thanks,” she said with a small, appreciative smile.
Austin grinned, clearly pleased by her response.
He quickly took a seat across from her, eager to continue their conversation.
The cafeteria had gone silent around them, with students sneaking glances at Nicole, still processing the strange turn of events.
Raine’s jealousy continued to simmer, but she could do nothing but watch as Nicole remained calm and composed, her status continuing to grow in the eyes of her peers.
