Chapter 47
Jared noticed Nicole wasn’t interested in engaging with him, so he casually remarked, “Sure, we’ll meet him someday.
I’ve got something to do now, so I’ll head out.” He adjusted his tie, stood up, and left, walking with an air of confidence.
Max was the only one who saw through his boss’s demeanor and noticed the slight frustration in Jared’s expression.
After Jared left, Nicole glanced up, watching his figure disappear.
For some reason, she found his sulking look amusing, though she quickly stopped smiling, shook her head, and went back to her coffee and book.
Time passed quickly, and before long, the sky had darkened.
Deciding it was time to rest, Nicole packed up her things, leaving a banknote on the table.
As she was about to exit, she spotted Raine entering with Gary.
A smirk crossed Nicole’s face—she hadn’t expected Raine to return to the café after their last encounter.
Gary noticed Nicole too, and the memory of her rejection earlier in the afternoon made him seethe with anger.
Instead of addressing her, he merely kept his eyes on her as she walked past.
Raine, upon seeing Nicole, immediately scowled.
Gary had been distant with her lately, and though she knew he loved this café, she had endured her earlier embarrassment and convinced him to join her here.
Little did she know that Nicole would appear yet again.
As Nicole passed the cashier, she made her way to the door, seemingly intent on leaving without paying.
Raine, seizing the opportunity, couldn’t resist throwing a jab, “How typical of you, Nicole.
Leaving without paying like some country bumpkin, trying to sneak away when everyone’s watching.” Nicole rolled her eyes and ignored her, continuing toward the door.
Seeing Nicole shake her head, Raine assumed she was trying to skip out on the bill and rushed to the cashier.
“Hey! Do something! She’s trying to leave without paying! Lucky I caught her in the act!” Raine shot Nicole a smug look, certain she was about to make her suffer.
However, the cashier’s response took her by surprise.
“That lady is Miss Riddle, our VIP customer.
She doesn’t need to pay here.
As for you, Miss, you’ve been blacklisted from this café.
The owner doesn’t welcome you.
Please leave.” Raine stood there in disbelief, her face flushing with rage.
“What? Are you insane? Do you know who I am? How dare you blacklist me? Do you want your business to go under?” The cashier’s demeanor shifted, no longer as polite.
“I don’t care who you are.
The rules are the rules.
If you keep causing trouble here, you’ll regret it.” Two large bodyguards stepped forward, their presence immediately intimidating.
Raine opened her mouth to protest, but Gary, visibly embarrassed, turned on his heel and left.
He had never been rejected so publicly before, and he couldn’t take the humiliation any longer.
Raine panicked, chasing after him with a last glare at the cashier.
“Gary, wait for me!” Max, who had been watching the scene from above, walked down the stairs after they left, offering a nod to the cashier.
“You handled that well.” Raine had been causing a scene and threatening people in the café—she was clearly asking for trouble.
Max then approached Nicole, offering a polite apology.
“Sorry for the disruption, Miss Riddle.” Nicole smiled warmly.
“It’s fine.
I’m just glad to know Jared took care of it.” She waved as she left.
Max watched her go, a bit surprised at how happy she seemed.
“Miss Riddle seems to be in a good mood.” At that moment, the cashier walked over to Max, holding out the banknote Nicole had left behind.
“Mr.
Graham, she left some money on the table.” Max chuckled and accepted the money.
“Miss Riddle is certainly an interesting one.” He thought to himself, Mr.
Johnston had already said she didn’t need to pay, but she still refused to take anything without paying.
People like her are rare these days.
The sky had darkened completely, and the streetlights flickered to life as Nicole walked back to her dormitory, her bag slung over her shoulder.
When she reached the stairs, she suddenly sensed something fall from above.
Quick as a flash, she dodged the object, hearing it land with a loud thud.
“A rock?!” she thought, frowning.
Who would pull such a prank? If I hadn’t moved, that rock could’ve hit me! The culprit must have thrown it from the dormitory above hers—likely the boys’ dorm.
Who could hold such a grudge against her? The figure on the tenth floor watched her from a distance, clearly displeased when the rock missed.
Nicole couldn’t make out the person’s face, but she felt a strange unease.
I just moved in today…
I don’t think I’ve made any enemies here yet.
Shaking off the thought, she continued to her dorm.
Inside, she took a hot shower to relax.
When she came out, Lulu, who was on the bed next to hers, exclaimed, “Nicole, check the school forum.
Everyone’s talking about you! They’re saying you bullied Snow and that you don’t deserve to be campus queen!”
