Chapter_43
The realization hit Jasper like a cold wave. If the man his father had encountered in Yoarkley was indeed Jonah, then it meant that the situation was even more complicated than he had initially thought. The Taylor Group had been a longstanding rival of the Beckett Group, and their animosity ran deep—anything that Jonah did was calculated to cause harm. But if Jonah had shown up in Yoarkley and made such a move, it couldn’t have been a mere coincidence.
Jasper’s mind raced as he processed the information. His father had already been under a lot of pressure due to the Taylor Group’s interference, and now, the situation with the Gardner family was only adding more fuel to the fire. He had to tread carefully. If Jonah was indeed behind all of this, it meant that the Taylor Group’s reach was even wider than they had anticipated.
“Dad,” Jasper said, his voice steady but filled with concern, “if Jonah was in Yoarkley today and intercepted the deal, we need to find out exactly what he was after. He’s playing a much bigger game than we realize. The timing of everything is too coincidental.”
Newton scowled, clearly still angry, but he acknowledged the truth in Jasper’s words. “I’ve been telling you all this, Jasper. Jonah’s been a thorn in our side for too long. He’s trying to take us down, piece by piece, and we can’t let that happen. But I won’t stand by and let him destroy everything we’ve worked for. Not without a fight.”
Jasper nodded, his mind already formulating a plan. “We’ll need to make our move carefully. The last thing we want is to give Jonah a reason to escalate things even further. If he’s targeting the Beckett Group and the Gardner family together, then it means something much larger is at play.”
Sophia, still standing nearby, had been quiet for a while, her eyes flashing with a mixture of frustration and calculation. “So, what are you going to do now, Jasper?” she asked, her tone sharp. “We can’t just sit here and let things spiral out of control. My sister’s reputation is on the line, and if the Gardner family falls, then the Beckett family might too.”
Jasper shot his aunt a cold glance, his patience thinning. “I’ve already made it clear, Aunt Sophia. I won’t let anyone use the Beckett Group for personal gain. If you want to help the Gardner family, you can do so, but not at the expense of our interests.” His words were deliberate, and they carried the weight of someone who was no longer afraid to take a stand.
Sophia’s face tightened, but she didn’t argue further. She knew better than to challenge Jasper when his resolve was this firm.
“What about Lia?” she asked, her voice softer now.
Jasper’s gaze softened slightly. “Lia is not involved in this mess. Whatever happens with the Gardner family, it won’t affect our marriage plans. We’ll handle it on our terms, but I won’t allow personal matters to interfere with the business. Not now, not ever.”
Sophia nodded reluctantly. “I suppose we all have to make tough choices.” She then turned to her father, her expression almost pleading. “Dad, are you really going to let Jonah do this to us? We’ve fought too hard to lose everything now.”
Newton’s eyes were full of fire as he spoke again, his voice heavy with the years of grudges and disappointments he had carried. “We’re not losing anything yet. But Jonah… he’s playing a dangerous game. And if he wants war, I’ll give it to him.”
Jasper, still contemplating the situation, finally spoke up. “We need to act fast. I’ll make some calls and find out exactly what Jonah is up to. We can’t let him manipulate this situation any longer. He’s underestimating us, and that’s going to be his mistake.”
With that, the room fell into a tense silence as Jasper prepared for the next steps. It was clear to him now that this wasn’t just a business rivalry—it was something much deeper. The Beckett Group’s future was at stake, and he couldn’t afford to let his family be dragged down by old grudges and new enemies.
Jasper left the study, his mind set on one thing: finding Jonah and figuring out what his next move was. He wouldn’t let the Taylor Group win—not this time.
