Landon’s smile grew even more playful and slightly provocative. “How about dinner tonight? I’ll pick you up. You can tell me what you want to eat, and I’ll make a reservation,” he said, clearly not taking no for an answer.
Alyssa frowned, irritation lacing her voice as she responded, “I have a boyfriend, Mr. Harper.”
Landon shrugged nonchalantly, unfazed. “I don’t even care that you have an ex-husband, let alone this.” His words were sharp and suggestive, revealing his lack of moral boundaries when it came to relationships. For him, if he wanted something, he went after it, no matter the cost.
“If you’re afraid, we can do it secretly, at my private villa. It’s secluded, and my cook’s a three-star Michelin chef. I’ll have everything prepared in advance,” he added smoothly, trying to sweeten the deal.
Alyssa’s patience was wearing thin, and she glanced around, her annoyance growing. Why isn’t my coffee here yet? she thought, her fingers itching to throw the cup in his face.
But just as she was about to say something, Landon’s phone rang, interrupting her. He excused himself and walked away to answer the call, muttering something under his breath.
What a shameless man, Alyssa cursed inwardly, her irritation rising. She glanced at the waiter just as he finally arrived with her coffee, but before she could even take a sip, another presence approached her.
Vanessa stood in front of her, eyes narrowed in disdain. She hadn’t heard the conversation between Alyssa and Landon, but it didn’t matter. Alyssa was just a lowly worker, and Vanessa couldn’t stand the thought of anyone, especially someone like Alyssa, even daring to compete with her for Landon’s attention.
Vanessa’s eyes flashed with hostility. “Stay away from Mr. Harper if you want to keep your job here,” she warned, her voice dripping with malice.
Alyssa waved a hand dismissively in front of her face, her expression unchanged. The thick, overpowering fragrance of Vanessa’s perfume was giving her a headache, and she couldn’t help but wonder if Landon still had his sense of smell.
“What can you do if I don’t do as you say?” Alyssa asked coolly, not even bothering to look at Vanessa as she took a deep breath.
“I’ll file a complaint and make sure you don’t get away with this!” Vanessa spat, her face twisted in fury.
Alyssa raised an eyebrow. “A complaint? Because you’re upset that Landon talked with me?” Her tone was laced with amusement.
“Go ahead, then. Even if Mr. Jonah hears about it, he’ll just think something’s wrong with your brain,” Alyssa added, a smirk tugging at the corners of her lips.
“Bitch!” Vanessa hissed, livid. In her rage, she reached for the coffee on the table, intending to splash it on Alyssa’s face, but things didn’t go as planned.
Before Vanessa could make a move, Alyssa swiftly grabbed the cup, and in one fluid motion, she splashed the coffee onto Vanessa’s face. The dark liquid splattered across her makeup, ruining it completely. Vanessa’s branded dress was stained, and she stood frozen, her lips trembling as she fought back tears.
Alyssa calmly wiped the coffee from the back of her hand, her expression unbothered. “If anyone’s going to be mistreated here, it’ll be you,” she said with a smile, her voice smooth and chilling.
Meanwhile, Landon had just received a call from Jasper.
“It’s Mrs. Harper’s birthday the day after tomorrow. I don’t know what to get her. Want to come pick out a gift with me tonight?” Jasper asked, diving straight into the topic.
Landon, not missing a beat, replied casually, “Oh, come on, my mother treats you like her godson. You could give her wild grass, and she’d cherish it like it was antique. Just get her anything.”
“No, come with me tonight,” Jasper insisted.
Landon thought for a moment, considering. “I already have an appointment tonight. Can we do it tomorrow instead?”
“Cancel it.”
Landon hesitated. Despite his usual disregard for obligations, he wasn’t about to betray his friend. He wasn’t someone who would play dirty with relationships, even if he was trying to woo someone.
He finally relented with a sigh. “Fine, fine. I don’t want to keep you in the dark. The person I’m meeting with tonight is actually your ex-wife.”
There was a sudden, heavy silence on the other end of the line. Landon glanced at his phone, making sure Jasper hadn’t hung up.
“Hello?” Landon called out. A few moments later, Jasper’s deep voice came through, his tone serious, yet betraying a hint of surprise. “You’re with Alice now?”
