Chapter_11
Alyssa glanced up, her expression shifting from casual amusement to a more serious one. She raised an eyebrow at the sudden interruption, her eyes flicking to Sean.
“Come in,” she called, her voice calm but with an edge of curiosity.
The door opened, and a flustered assistant stepped inside, holding a stack of papers. She quickly made her way to Alyssa’s desk and placed the documents down.
“Ms. Alyssa, I apologize for the sudden intrusion, but there’s an urgent matter,” the assistant said, breathless. “We’ve received word from the hotel chain’s top clients. They’re requesting an immediate meeting regarding the bedding issue. They’re unhappy with the quick turnover and have some concerns about quality control. They’re asking to meet today.”
Alyssa’s gaze sharpened as she examined the papers before her, glancing at Sean, who stood motionless, waiting for her response.
“I don’t have time for a rushed meeting today,” Alyssa said, her voice smooth and authoritative. “Make sure the meeting is scheduled for tomorrow, first thing. Let them know we are addressing their concerns, and I’ll personally ensure that everything meets their expectations.”
The assistant hesitated for a moment but quickly nodded in agreement. “Yes, Ms. Alyssa. I’ll take care of it.”
As the assistant exited, Alyssa leaned back in her chair, taking a moment to process the situation. She knew Jonah’s plan to have her take charge was no small feat. Her responsibilities had grown, but so had her resolve.
Turning back to Sean, who had been silent during the exchange, she gave him a playful yet sharp look.
“Looks like the day’s about to get more interesting. Better be ready,” she said, her lips curling into a confident smile.
Sean, catching the shift in her mood, straightened up and grinned. “Always ready, Ms. Alyssa.”
With the office settled into a new rhythm, Alyssa’s mind briefly wandered to Jonah’s recent decisions—giving her Sean, his former secretary, had been an unexpected but welcome change. As much as she didn’t want to admit it, it was clear Jonah believed in her, and that belief had brought her here, to the forefront of managing not just the family business, but also a legacy that was bigger than her personal feelings.
But with every new responsibility, a different kind of pressure mounted. There were moments when she missed the freedom she had before, the quiet mornings on the lake, the days spent in solitude, away from the suffocating expectations of her family. But those days were gone. Now, she had a position to uphold—one that would require her to navigate not only business challenges but also personal ones.
Alyssa’s fingers drummed lightly on her desk, her thoughts aligning with the quiet hum of the office. She was no longer just a figure in the background of her father’s world or a passive participant in the family drama. She was carving out her own place in the world, and she wasn’t about to let anyone, least of all her father or ex-husband, dictate her future.
“So, what’s next?” she murmured aloud, half to herself, half to Sean, who had already shifted into work mode.
“Next, we make sure this bedding issue doesn’t turn into a disaster,” Sean said, quickly flipping through a few more documents. “I’ll handle the details, you just let me know what your next move is.”
Alyssa nodded, the weight of responsibility pressing down on her but also pushing her forward. The coming days would bring more tests, more challenges, but she was prepared. Her story was just beginning, and she would write it her own way.
