Chapter 24
Jasper’s patience was running thin as the days dragged on without any progress. His status as a top businessman had never been questioned, yet here he was, chasing Alyssa around like a novice. Her disregard for his position, her refusal to acknowledge his importance, only stoked the fire of his frustration. He had faced many obstacles in his life, but Alyssa seemed to be an entirely different kind of challenge.
“She’s not going to make this easy, is she?” Jasper muttered under his breath as he leaned back in the car, the weight of the situation sinking in.
Xavier, ever the loyal assistant, was visibly exasperated, muttering about the injustice of it all. “It’s disrespectful! We’re not some second-rate company! Does she even realize who she’s dealing with?”
Jasper held up a hand to silence him, his jaw clenched in irritation. “Enough, Xavier. We’ll come again tomorrow.”
But deep down, Jasper knew this wasn’t just about business. It was personal. Alyssa wasn’t playing by the same rules. She was indifferent to his title, his wealth, and his connections. To her, he wasn’t the all-powerful businessman. He was just another person who had to earn her respect.
Meanwhile, Alyssa was running KS World Hotel with an iron grip, her transformation of the hotel a testament to her strategic mind. From a dreary, rundown establishment to a well-oiled, competitive entity, she had turned it around in less than two weeks. Her sharp focus on internal issues before external ones was paying off. She wasn’t just a manager—she was a force to be reckoned with.
As she walked into the hotel, confident and composed in her black suit and golden rose earrings, the staff couldn’t help but admire her. She had earned their respect through results, and now they regarded her almost like royalty.
Jonah’s update over the phone about the financial aid to Gardner Group didn’t surprise her. “Figures. Jasper is a fool for Liana. Money’s all he knows how to use,” she muttered bitterly as she kicked off her heels and massaged her sore feet.
“Money can’t fix reputation,” Jonah pointed out. “It’s just a temporary patch. The damage is done.”
Alyssa’s smile was cold. “He can try, but it won’t change anything.”
Jonah chuckled lightly. “If only you two were on the same side. You could rule the city together.”
Alyssa’s expression hardened as she picked up a chocolate bar. “We’re not fated for that, Jonah. Our paths don’t cross—not like that.”
Her words held a weight that felt both resolute and regretful. She had once wanted something more, but that was a long time ago. Now, her focus was on the bigger picture. She was in control, and no one would take that from her.
