Chapter_58
Alyssa’s eyes narrowed as she read the documents Sean had handed her. The pawned jewelry, once belonging to the Gardner family, was a direct connection to Rosaline’s desperation. The items had been sold through a middleman, someone trusted by Rosaline—someone trying to salvage the family’s crumbling finances. But this wasn’t just a business transaction. It was another sign of the Gardner family’s fall from grace.
“So, Rosaline is really going to sell everything she can just to stay afloat,” Alyssa murmured, her fingers tapping the desk in thought. She wasn’t surprised by the lengths the Gardner family would go to, but it still stung. The jewelry, particularly Liana’s pieces, had once been symbols of her connection to Jasper, tokens of affection from a man she couldn’t seem to let go of.
Sean hesitated for a moment before speaking again, his voice cautious. “Miss, there’s more. The items were pawned just days after the crisis started. It’s clear the Gardner family is trying to save face in front of their creditors and the public, but it’s only a matter of time before it all unravels completely.”
Alyssa tilted her head, processing the information. “I’ll deal with it. The Gardner family is on their last legs, and it’s time someone showed them just how far they’ve fallen.”
Sean, sensing an opportunity, grinned slyly. “I’ve also heard some rumors that might be of interest. Apparently, there are talks about Alice being involved with Mr. Jonah from the KS Group. Some people think she’s stirring trouble for the Gardner family, particularly in relation to their connection with the Beckett family.”
Alyssa’s expression grew colder. Alice, once a fixture in Jasper’s life, now becoming an ally to the KS Group? It seemed like a perfect storm of drama. She had no love lost for Alice, but if Alice was indeed involved in sabotaging the Gardner family, it could work to her advantage.
“Interesting,” Alyssa said, her voice filled with a calm, calculated tone. “Alice has always had her way with men, and I wouldn’t put it past her to manipulate things to her advantage. But if she’s targeting the Gardners, then maybe she’s becoming more of a threat than I thought.”
Sean grinned, sensing her growing interest. “Exactly. The way things are going, it might not be long before the Beckett family’s involvement comes to light, and when it does, the Gardner Group will have nowhere to run.”
Alyssa leaned back in her chair, considering her next move. “Let’s keep an eye on Alice and the Gardners. If there’s anything we can use to our advantage, I want to know about it. The sooner we push them into the abyss, the sooner they’ll stop being a nuisance.”
Sean nodded, understanding the task. As he turned to leave, he couldn’t help but marvel at Alyssa’s cold efficiency. She never missed a beat, always calculating her next steps.
Meanwhile, far from the clutches of the KS Group, the Gardner family continued to fall deeper into crisis. The public backlash had been relentless. The boycott was growing stronger, and with the loss of over 80% of their stores, the family’s reputation was in tatters. In private, the once-proud Gardner Group was now reduced to scavenging for anything that could keep them afloat.
Rosaline, pacing back and forth in the dimly lit living room, could feel the walls closing in. The weight of failure pressed on her chest. “Sophia, we need to move faster. The longer we wait, the more damage we take. What’s happening with Liana’s wedding? We need Jasper to marry her, and soon.”
Sophia, sitting across from her, shook her head with a mixture of sympathy and frustration. “We can’t rush the Beckett family. Grandfather insisted on waiting for his birthday. I’ve done all I can.”
Rosaline’s patience snapped. “This isn’t about some birthday! The Gardner family is crumbling, and we’re running out of time.”
Sophia sighed, staring at her sister with a look of resignation. “I understand. But the wedding will bring us a lifeline. Jasper will be forced to help us once Liana is his wife. I can’t make him act before then. We must weather this storm.”
Rosaline clenched her fists, her eyes burning with anger. The plan was simple: get Liana married to Jasper, and the Beckett family’s influence would open doors. But even that seemed more elusive by the day. If the family’s troubles continued, they might lose everything before the wedding could ever happen.
“Then we need to focus on Alice. If she’s the one causing the turmoil, we need to find a way to expose her, to make sure she doesn’t ruin everything.” Rosaline’s voice was low and venomous, her mind already working through the possibilities.
Sophia raised an eyebrow. “And what will that accomplish? Alice has the Taylor family behind her. She’s untouchable for now.”
“Not if we play our cards right,” Rosaline retorted, a sharp smile creeping onto her lips. “Let’s see how long Alice can keep her secrets buried. She may have allies, but we have the power to destroy her if we need to.”
The pieces of the game were moving quickly now, and Rosaline was prepared to sacrifice anyone, including her own daughter, to win.
