Chapter_99
Jasper’s chest tightened as Mrs. Rosie’s words echoed in his mind. She had always been there for him, just like a second mother. He remembered the countless nights Alice had stayed up, waiting for him to return. Even though they had been distant for a while, the weight of Mrs. Rosie’s words hit him harder than he anticipated. He had taken Alice’s care for granted—her quiet, unwavering support during the most difficult times.
But now, things were different. They were no longer together, and yet, the image of Alice waiting for him every night stayed with him.
“I’m sorry, Mrs. Rosie,” he muttered, looking down at the floor, his voice softer than usual. “I should’ve paid more attention to her… I didn’t realize how much she did for me.”
Mrs. Rosie’s eyes softened as she gazed at Jasper. “You’re a good man, Mr. Jasper. You just need to understand what’s important, especially now. You don’t realize it, but you’re not the only one who’s suffered.”
Jasper nodded but didn’t say anything. He had a lot on his mind, but one thing was clear: he had neglected to truly see the sacrifices Alice had made for him. For so long, he had been consumed by his own world, not noticing the pain others were enduring for him.
“Have you eaten?” Mrs. Rosie asked again, as she placed the warmed plate in front of him.
Jasper didn’t feel hungry, but he accepted the plate, knowing it would bring her some comfort. “I’ll eat later,” he said, still distracted. “But I’ll make sure to rest more. Thank you, Mrs. Rosie.”
She smiled gently. “I’m glad to hear that. You deserve to take care of yourself too.”
Jasper turned to leave, but Mrs. Rosie’s voice stopped him. “Mr. Jasper, don’t be too hard on yourself. Sometimes, life doesn’t go as planned. But if you want to make things right, you’ll have to take that first step. Not for anyone else, but for yourself.”
Her words lingered in his mind as he made his way to his room. It felt like a moment of clarity—one that he couldn’t ignore. He had to stop running from his feelings, stop avoiding the things he needed to confront. And above all, he had to face the choices he had made, especially when it came to Alice.
But first, there was Liana, and he had promised to help her. Jasper sighed deeply, unsure of where everything was headed.
