Chapter_36
Alyssa’s calm demeanor remained unwavering as Vanessa’s shrill voice echoed through the restaurant, pleading for help. Landon, hearing the commotion, quickly entered the restaurant, his eyes widening at the sight before him.
Alyssa, with the precision and control of a skilled officer, had Vanessa pinned down on the table, holding her hair with one hand while her other arm secured both of Vanessa’s wrists. It was an intense scene, one that clearly displayed Alyssa’s strength and resolve.
Landon raised an eyebrow, a smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. This wasn’t the scene of a meek woman being picked on—it was a display of power and control that amused him. He leaned against the doorframe, watching, almost entertained.
“Let me go, Mr. Harper! Help me!” Vanessa cried, her face contorted in frustration and fear.
Landon’s gaze shifted from the tussling women to Alyssa’s unbothered expression. His amusement deepened. “I’m going to sue you, Alyssa! You can’t do this to me!” Vanessa shouted, desperation in her voice.
Alyssa responded with a calm, cutting remark. “Hurry up, then. When the handprint on your face fades, you won’t have anything left to fight with,” she said coolly, her voice unwavering.
Vanessa’s gaze darted to Landon, her last hope. “Mr. Harper, help me!”
Landon pushed off the doorframe and walked over, pulling Alyssa back with a gentleness that contrasted the tension of the moment. “Alright, alright. Enough of this,” he said, his tone almost coaxing, as if this whole spectacle didn’t faze him.
He glanced briefly at Alyssa before turning to Vanessa. “You must have done something to offend Ms. White, which is why she reacted this way. Apologize,” he instructed firmly.
Vanessa was still seething with fury. “Why should I apologize to her?” she demanded, her face flushed red.
“Because she doesn’t like you,” Landon said, his voice calm but with an edge that made it clear where his loyalty stood. “Now apologize to her. We’re done here.”
Alyssa arched an eyebrow at Landon’s smart remark. Much better than Jasper, she thought to herself, a faint smile tugging at the corners of her lips.
Vanessa, eyes wide with disbelief, looked like she might explode. “How could you do this to me, Mr. Harper? I’m your girlfriend!” She rushed toward him, tears welling in her eyes as she reached for him. But Landon stepped back, a look of disdain crossing his features.
“Girlfriend? Who said so?” he shot her a cold, withering look. “You’re not my girlfriend. Apologize to Ms. White and leave. Don’t come near me again.”
The finality in his voice left no room for argument. Vanessa’s face twisted in humiliation and anger as she mumbled a half-hearted apology. “I… I’m sorry,” she gritted through clenched teeth, before quickly fleeing the scene, her dignity shattered.
Landon turned back to Alyssa, his expression softening. “I’m sorry for the inconvenience, Ms. White,” he said, his voice genuine.
Alyssa glanced at her watch and stood up, her movements graceful and deliberate. “It’s settled. She’s gone,” she said with finality, ready to move on. “I have to get back to work now. Take care, Mr. Harper.”
Landon, still admiring her composure, glanced at her wrist and noticed the gleaming Richard Mille watch she wore. It was a piece he recognized—a limited edition, something few could afford.
Jonah treats her well, Landon mused, feeling a slight sense of envy. He wasn’t sure if he’d be willing to give her something so extravagant.
He leaned forward slightly, his voice smooth as he asked, “What time do you finish work today, Ms. White? I’d love to pick you up tonight.”
Alyssa shot him a quick look, one eyebrow raised, but she didn’t respond immediately. It was clear that the attention from Landon, while flattering, wasn’t something she was eager to entertain.
But Landon wasn’t easily dissuaded. He watched her carefully, noting her reaction, and leaned in, confident in his next move. “Let’s go for a proper dinner, no games,” he added, the hint of challenge in his voice.
Alyssa didn’t answer immediately, but the look on her face suggested she was weighing her options carefully.
