Chapter_70
Alyssa stood frozen, staring at the shattered remnants of the bracelet on the marble sink. Her breath caught in her throat as her mind struggled to process what had just happened. The bracelet—one of the few meaningful gifts she had ever received, the last memory of Newton’s kindness—was gone. Destroyed in front of her, at the hands of Liana, the woman who seemed to take pleasure in every humiliation she could inflict.
The sharp pain in Alyssa’s wrist from where Liana had grabbed her only added to the emotional weight pressing down on her chest. She couldn’t even speak for a moment. Her hands trembled as they hovered over the pieces of the bracelet. The delicate emeralds, once gleaming with sentimental value, were now reduced to nothing more than broken fragments.
Liana, standing with a triumphant look in her eyes, mocked her, “What’s wrong? Can’t handle a little broken jewelry? It’s nothing compared to what you deserve.”
Alyssa’s lips pressed together in a thin line. She was trembling, but not from fear—no, this was different. It was anger, deep and boiling beneath her calm facade. The pain in her wrist was nothing compared to the sting in her heart. She had let this woman push her to the edge, but this—this was too far.
With controlled precision, Alyssa bent down and picked up the pieces of the bracelet, one by one. The emerald shards felt cold and sharp in her hands. She didn’t know how long she knelt there, lost in the overwhelming sense of loss, until she heard Liana’s voice again.
“You really think you can still win Jasper back with your pathetic games? You’re a joke, Alice. You can’t even keep a simple piece of jewelry intact. How are you supposed to keep a man?”
Alyssa slowly stood up, her face betraying nothing of the turmoil swirling inside her. She took one final glance at the shattered bracelet, then fixed her gaze on Liana. Her voice, when it came, was low and steady.
“You’re right about one thing,” she said, her eyes narrowing. “I don’t need a broken necklace to remind me of what’s important. And you—” She paused, stepping closer to Liana, who flinched back in surprise. “You’re the one who’s going to regret this.”
Liana opened her mouth to retort, but Alyssa was already walking past her. There was no need to waste more words. What Liana didn’t understand was that this wasn’t about the necklace, or even about Jasper. It was about Alyssa finally letting go of the past. And that meant no longer letting anyone, not even someone like Liana, hold power over her.
Alyssa reached the door, but paused before leaving, her back still to Liana. She whispered, barely audible, “You may have broken the bracelet, Liana, but you’ll never break me.”
And with that, she left, leaving the angry woman alone with her bitterness and a shattered piece of jewelry. Alyssa knew it wasn’t just the bracelet that was broken now—it was the final link to a past that she would never return to.
