Chapter_33
The tension surrounding Gardner Group was palpable as their financial crisis deepened. The company was unraveling fast, with more than ten of Elysian Home’s stores in Solana City left empty. Jasper’s refusal to help them only hastened their fall. If they couldn’t secure new funding soon, it was clear that they would be finished once the money from Beckett Group ran dry.
Meanwhile, Taylor Group had capitalized on the Gardners’ downfall, winning public favor by exposing their true colors. The media frenzy surrounding their corruption made it impossible for Gardner Group to recover their reputation.
At KS World Hotel, Alyssa’s plan was coming together perfectly. Sean had been keeping an eye on Michael, as per her instructions, and confirmed that Michael had been in contact with Dylan multiple times. The plot thickened as the conspiracy was uncovered. “Everything is unfolding just as you predicted,” Sean remarked, admiration in his voice. “You knew exactly what he was thinking.”
Alyssa smiled as Sean continued to manicure her nails. “He embezzled hotel funds and has been conspiring with Dylan. I suppose they have quite the bond,” she said casually, a glint of satisfaction in her eyes.
“I’ll take care of this during the weekend,” Alyssa continued with confidence. “Gardner Group will hold a press conference. I’ll show them what it means by ‘a friend in need is a friend indeed.’”
As the new mattresses were delivered, Alyssa took it upon herself to inspect them, eager to ensure the quality was up to her standards. Sean tried to persuade her to leave it to the Housekeeping Department, but Alyssa was insistent. “I’m not a fragile doll. I’ve been through worse. I’ve been on battlefields, saved lives. A mattress check isn’t going to tire me out.”
Her words held weight, but there was a hidden pain in her eyes. She recalled a moment in the past when she had saved Jasper in Luminara. He had been gravely wounded—shot in the leg and shoulder—and despite his desperate pleas for her to leave, she refused.
“Just leave me and go! I’m telling you to leave! Just go!” Jasper had shouted in agony.
But Alyssa hadn’t wavered. “No! Even if you’re dying here, I won’t abandon you! We go together, or not at all!”
That moment, filled with the rawness of loyalty and love, was forever etched in her mind. As she looked back on it, though, the pain of Jasper’s betrayal surged once more. She had risked her life for him, only to be left heartbroken. Alyssa could feel the ache in her chest as she thought about how profoundly Jasper had impacted her life.
With a sigh, Alyssa and Sean walked toward the unloading bay, where the employees were working to offload the new stock. The Director of Housekeeping was visibly impressed when he saw Alyssa overseeing the process herself. As Sean helped her climb onto the truck to inspect the mattresses, Alyssa’s professionalism and poise were undeniable.
She ran her fingers over the mattress, sitting down to test its comfort before declaring, “All good. Unload everything.”
Just as the last package was being unloaded, a roaring engine caught Alyssa’s attention. A blue Lamborghini sped toward the unloading bay, its sleek frame cutting through the air like a predator. The car came to a stop, and the driver, Landon, stepped out. Behind him was a lady, but Alyssa’s eyes were drawn to him, intrigued by the aura of confidence he exuded.
Landon surveyed the area, his sharp eyes landing on Alyssa. She stood with an air of sophistication, her business attire highlighting her elegance and authority. Despite her career-focused appearance, there was an undeniable strength about her—an edge that made her stand out.
A sly smile crept onto Landon’s lips as he observed her. “This country bumpkin is quite capable, isn’t she?” he mused under his breath. His interest in Alyssa had been piqued, and he was eager to see what kind of woman she truly was.
