Chapter 96
Floyd was still in shock, his jaw hanging open as he struggled to process what he had just seen. “How was I supposed to know?” he muttered to himself, trying to regain his composure.
“Why don’t you try asking Ms. Bonnie?” he offered, though he could sense his master’s irritation and jealousy simmering beneath the surface.
Ivor’s voice was laced with frustration. “I’m not going to do that. She would misread the situation and think I was following her on purpose.”
“Should I leave, then?” Floyd asked hesitantly.
“No. Keep following them. Let me know if anything happens,” Ivor ordered.
Sweat beaded on Floyd’s forehead. His heart raced at the thought of reporting anything significant to Ivor. He couldn’t imagine facing his master if Bonnie and Master Jim’s relationship grew more intimate. His mind raced with questions—if he witnessed something he shouldn’t, would he send the pictures to Ivor? Would he have the courage to report it?
Ivor sat in silence, his expression icy. His fingers intertwined as he placed both hands on the table. His face was a mask of tension. He had been stewing in his thoughts since seeing the pictures of Bonnie with Master Jim.
Bonnie had lunch with Ms. Bonita’s science researchers, but the more Ivor thought about it, the more it seemed like the person she had mentioned was Master Jim all along. The idea of Bonnie becoming even closer to such a prominent figure left Ivor uneasy.
More than an hour passed, and Bonnie and Jim finished their meal. Jim stood up, ready to leave.
“I’ll drive you home,” he said.
Bonnie raised an eyebrow, looking at him skeptically. “Are you going to drive me home looking like that?”
Jim touched his face, a playful smile tugging at his lips. “I’ll disguise myself.”
Bonnie glanced around, her concern growing. “Didn’t you suspect someone took our pictures? I’m worried they’re still around somewhere. You’ll expose yourself as Tim. We should go our separate ways.”
Jim shook his head. “No way. It’s late, and you might run into some thugs on the way home. It’s happened before, after all. More than once.”
Bonnie sighed, rolling her eyes. “I can take care of myself.”
Jim hesitated, then spoke earnestly. “I know I’m being annoying, but I’d never let you go home alone at this time of night. I’ll follow you even if it costs me my life. So don’t try to stop me. Don’t worry—I’ll leave once I take you somewhere near the Knight Villa.”
Bonnie considered his words, then relented. “I guess that’ll do.”
Floyd immediately relayed the information to Ivor. “They’re leaving now. Judging by the direction they’re going, it seems they’re headed to the villa.” Despite his calm tone, a storm of thoughts raged in his mind. Master Jim was an important figure—Ms. Bonita’s personal bodyguard. Was he really taking Bonnie home? Did that mean they were a couple?
Floyd’s stomach twisted at the thought. He could tell his master had become infatuated with Bonnie. If she and Master Jim were really together, he dreaded to imagine the consequences. He didn’t want to entertain the idea, but he couldn’t shake the uneasy feeling that this could be a disaster.
Ivor’s face grew colder as he read Floyd’s text. The situation was unraveling faster than he could manage.
Suddenly, Bonnie sneezed.
Jim’s concern was immediate. “What’s wrong? Did you catch a cold? You didn’t wear enough layers. I have some spare coats in the back. Put them on, quick.”
Bonnie sniffed, brushing it off. “I didn’t catch anything. It was just a sneeze that came out of nowhere.”
Jim insisted, “You should still put it on. Prevention is better than cure. If you really do catch a cold, the old professors will nag at you again.”
Bonnie chuckled, appreciating his concern but still not taking it too seriously.
