Chapter 29
As the students wondered about Bonnie’s relationship with Ms. Kay, they stopped what they were doing and stared at her, their curiosity piqued. Sacha’s insinuation was cruel—implying that Bonnie had become a mistress to an older man—but Bonnie, instead of getting angry, simply glanced at Sacha, her expression unreadable, and said nothing.
Her silence only seemed to irritate the classmates further. They had already been upset about what had happened at Regal Karaoke, and now, with this new bit of gossip, they started to turn on her, launching verbal attacks.
“Don’t be a snob. So what if you know Ms. Kay?” one student spat.
“I bet Ms. Kay will tell you to fuck off once she finds out who you really are! Hell, she might even give you a good beating,” another mocked.
Bonnie finished drinking her yogurt calmly, then turned to face them.
“You’re in school to study, not gossip about other people. You should focus on your studies. I feel bad for your parents, you know,” she said, her voice steady and unaffected by their taunts.
Her classmates were stunned by her response.
“Hey, Bonnie, don’t you have any shame?” one of them sneered. “You’re always getting zeros on exams. You’re the one who needs to focus on your studies!”
Bonnie’s smile remained unfazed. “Getting zeros doesn’t mean I’m a bad student. I just didn’t want to waste my time answering the papers because they were too easy. Instead, I spent my time solving the P versus NP problem.”
The room went silent as her words sank in. The P versus NP problem—one of the seven most challenging mathematical problems in the world, a problem that had stumped mathematicians for decades.
But Bonnie had solved it in less than a day, a feat that had left mathematicians around the world in awe.
A student laughed mockingly. “Do you really expect us to believe that?”
“A loser like you solved the P versus NP problem? That’ll happen when pigs fly!” someone else jeered, and the classroom erupted with laughter at her expense.
Bonnie didn’t flinch.
“If you’re as good as you say you are, Bonnie, you must be trying to get into Pyralis University,” Tilda sneered, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
“Pfft, are you kidding me?” she added, rolling her eyes. “Pyralis University is the best university in our city, and only the cream of the crop can get in. I don’t think a single person in this whole school will be able to do that, let alone anyone from our class. If Bonnie can do it, I’ll shave my head!”
Her words hung in the air like a challenge, but Bonnie only smiled, unbothered by the mocking atmosphere surrounding her.
