Chapter 90
The onlookers, who had previously been gossiping about Bonnie, immediately fell silent.
Was this the gigolo Trina had been talking about? Could a gigolo really dress in such a fine, tailored suit? Did they carry themselves with such poise and confidence? Was this how a gigolo would act?
No way. They were in the Jade Horizon Hotel, a place where only the incredibly wealthy or highly influential could afford to step foot. This wasn’t a place for gigolos—this was a place where important people dined. Trina had to have lied to everyone, making up these wild accusations just to defame her own sister.
If that were true, she must be a terrible woman. She was out to ruin Bonnie’s reputation, without any real reason. A woman’s honor was priceless, and Trina had just publicly insulted hers.
Fortunately, someone had stood up for Bonnie, otherwise, the rumors might have followed her everywhere. Now, the onlookers could only shake their heads in disgust at Trina.
They started murmuring among themselves, casting disdainful glances in Trina’s direction. The whispers grew louder as more people realized what had really happened.
Trina was now caught in her own web of lies, her face pale with fear. Hadwin, no longer able to stand by her actions, turned to her with a harsh look. “You’ve crossed the line. You should apologize to Bonnie.”
Trina knew she had no other choice but to do just that. She clenched her teeth, trying to hold back the panic rising in her chest. Her eyes were red as she said, “I’m sorry, Bonnie. I was reckless, but please, don’t misunderstand me. I never meant to slander you. I was just so worried. That’s why I didn’t realize where we were. I’m sorry! Can you please forgive me?”
Trina’s apology was laced with deceit, and Bonnie could sense it. Her disgust was palpable.
“Looks like you’re being hypocritical, as usual. No one here is a fool, Trina. You can try to act, but you can’t manipulate everyone,” Bonnie said coolly.
The onlookers exchanged knowing looks, sensing the insincerity in Trina’s words. The contempt in their gazes only intensified.
Trina, feeling the pressure mounting, blurted, “I’m apologizing sincerely, Bonnie. I’ll even get down on my knees if that’s what you want. Please…”
Before Trina could go that far, Bonnie turned to Professor Terry with a look of amusement. “She’s been working very hard to get into your research institute. But I don’t think someone like her would suit your institute. What do you think, Mr. Terry?”
Professor Terry, clearly flustered by Bonnie’s words, wiped a bead of sweat from his brow. He had been in the field for decades, so he knew how to handle awkward situations, but this one was pushing him to his limits.
“Well,” he began carefully, “I think you’re right. We wouldn’t hire someone like her, no matter how talented she may be. She’s not really all that skilled, anyway.”
Trina was struck speechless by his words. Her face drained of color, and she stood frozen, as if her entire world had just collapsed. To be dismissed like that by someone as important as Professor Terry… it was a blow she hadn’t expected.
Bonnie, clearly unimpressed, turned away from Trina. “I have to go, Mr. Terry. I’ll take my leave now. Thank you all for today. I’ve learned a lot. Truly, thank you.”
The professors, still playing along with Bonnie’s polite demeanor, nodded and offered their goodbyes. “No thanks are necessary,” they all said.
And just like that, Bonnie was gone.
The moment she stepped out of the hotel, however, she noticed Ivor quickly catching up to her.
