Chapter 59
Cied stared at his phone, and his eyes nearly popped out of his head.
“Tahabal Lean’Chelleve—she accepted my request! Ms. Bonita and I are friends on Telegram!” he exclaimed with excitement.
Ivor glanced at him, surprised, then checked his own phone. Sure enough, it was true. Bonita had accepted Ged’s request.
“What did you say to her?” Ivor asked, his curiosity piqued.
Ged puffed out his chest with a grin. “I told her I’m Ivor’s buddy and gave her my name. She accepted it just like that! I guess I’m just that charming!”
Ivor raised an eyebrow, clearly skeptical. “Maybe she was going to reject you, but she accidentally clicked ‘accept.’”
“Are you looking down on me?” Ged shot back, looking offended.
Ivor shrugged. “You can always text her if you don’t believe me. Let’s see if she replies.”
Ged wasn’t thrilled at the idea. What if Ivor was right, and Bonita deleted him immediately? It would be embarrassing.
Ivor saw the hesitation in his friend’s face. “Forget it. I don’t think it’s a good idea. If she deletes you, you’ll get upset.”
Ged hesitated for a moment but knew he couldn’t back down now, not after Ivor’s challenge.
“Do you think I’m scared?” Ged scoffed. “Let’s do this.” He quickly typed a brief text and sent it to Bonita.
“Hello, Ms. Bonita.”
The seconds dragged on as Ged nervously stared at his screen, beads of sweat forming on his forehead.
Ivor continued his work, ignoring the situation. But then—
Beep!
Ivor’s head snapped up, his eyes fixed on Ged’s phone. Ged’s face broke into a huge grin.
“Look at this! Ms. Bonita replied! She said, ‘Hello.’ Hahaha! I knew it! She didn’t just accept by accident. I’m too charming!” Ged laughed, practically dancing in his seat.
Ivor stroked his chin thoughtfully. Was Bonita really this easy to talk to?
Before he could think any more on it, Ged’s phone beeped again.
“Do you play League of Legends?” came the message from Bonita.
Ged’s jaw dropped, and he jumped out of his chair. “Holy crap! Ms. Bonita is chatting with me now!” he yelled, waving his phone in the air like a trophy. “She wants to team up with me! This is amazing! I’m going to tell all my friends—everyone’s going to be so jealous!”
“Sure, I do. I’m really good at it, too!” Ged quickly typed back, his fingers flying over the screen.
Bonita’s reply came quickly: “How about we team up?”
Ged’s heart nearly stopped. “Oh, shit. Holy shit! I can’t believe Ms. Bonita is asking me to team up with her! This is unreal!” He grinned from ear to ear, clearly ecstatic. “I’m posting this online! This is going to blow up. Everyone’s going to be so envious of me!”
Ivor watched his friend with an eyebrow raised in disbelief. It was baffling. A science prodigy like Bonita—someone so accomplished—asking to team up with Ged? A good-for-nothing from a wealthy family who spent most of his time lounging around? It didn’t add up.
Meanwhile, Bonnie spent the rest of the afternoon happily gaming with Ged, occasionally working on her research at the institute. When she finished up for the day, she decided to walk home, enjoying the cool, refreshing evening breeze.
As she walked, something nagged at her. She felt… watched.
She paused, turning around swiftly.
There, behind her, was Sacha—accompanied by several men. They were all carrying weapons, their expressions cold and menacing.
Bonnie raised an eyebrow, unphased by the sight. “What’s the meaning of this?” she asked calmly, her tone sharp and measured.
Sacha stepped forward, a smug smile creeping onto her face. “You’ve made a lot of enemies, Bonnie,” she said, her voice dripping with venom. “And now you’re going to pay for it.”
The men behind her tightened their grips on their weapons, stepping into position, but Bonnie wasn’t scared. In fact, she seemed almost amused by their little show.
“I’m not scared of you, Sacha,” she said coolly, her gaze flicking from one man to the next. “You and your goons should really think this through before you go any further. I don’t play games.”
Sacha’s smile faltered, but she quickly regained her composure. “You’ll see just how serious I am.”
Bonnie stood her ground, her mind already calculating her next move. The night was just beginning, and she was about to turn this little confrontation into something Sacha and her lackeys wouldn’t soon forget.
