Chapter 66
The women were doing everything they could to win honor for their branch of the family. They wanted to shine at the party, to become the stars of the event.
Though the party hadn’t even started yet, Halle and Rowena were already taking jabs at Bonnie.
“I guess you’re Ivor’s fiancé now, Bonnie,” Halle sneered. “Don’t embarrass him at the dinner party. If you don’t have a dress for the occasion, feel free to beg me for one. I’m sure I have something you can borrow.”
She waved her hand dismissively. “It might be a little outdated, but they’re all expensive. I’m sure you’ve never worn anything like that before. So, what’s it going to be? Are you going to beg me for it? I’ll consider lending you something if you do.”
Bonnie’s gaze hardened as she met Halle’s condescending look. “I don’t need your pathetic dresses. I didn’t want to say this, but they’re beneath me.”
“Go ahead, talk all you want! I’ll be waiting for you to embarrass yourself at the party,” Halle mocked, walking away with Rowena in tow. But she paused and turned back. “Didn’t you used to pretend to wear Hamish’s designs? Well, I’ve reserved one of his newest pieces—out of the three he made this month. I’m sure you’ll be jealous when I wow everyone at the party.”
Bonnie raised an eyebrow, a mischievous glint in her eyes. “I can read your fortune, Halle. Let me tell you, you’re not destined to wear any of Hamish’s dresses. I’m afraid you won’t be able to wear it this month.”
“Hah!” Halle scoffed, rolling her eyes at Bonnie as she strutted off with Rowena. Bonnie watched them go with a smug smile.
Her phone buzzed just then. It was Hamish calling. What a coincidence—she had been about to call him herself.
“I’ve just tweeted three of my latest designs on my official Twitter, Ms. Bonnie,” Hamish’s voice came through the phone. “Two have already been reserved, but I saved the third, the best one, just for you. I’ve turned down every other request for it.”
Bonnie checked her Twitter and saw the three designs. The two that were reserved were beautiful, but the one Hamish had saved for her was something extraordinary—on a whole different level.
“Nicely done. I’ll take it,” she replied confidently.
“Great!” Hamish sounded pleased. “By the way, has anyone from the Knight family reserved any of your dresses?”
“I did hear the Knight family’s annual dinner party is coming up,” Bonnie said casually. “Now that you mention it, some members of the family have indeed reserved my dresses.”
“Does the name Halle Knight sound familiar to you?” she asked, her tone more direct.
“Wait a minute, I’ll check,” Hamish replied.
He returned quickly with the answer. “Yes, there is a Halle Knight.”
“Cancel her reservation,” Bonnie said, her voice calm but firm.
“Huh? What? Are you sure?” Hamish asked, surprised. “Did she offend you somehow?”
“You could say that,” Bonnie answered, her tone clipped.
“Alright, I’ll cancel it. But just so you know, the dress is a bit pricey, and she already paid a deposit. If we cancel, we’ll have to absorb the cost.”
Bonnie didn’t hesitate. “Do you think I can’t afford that?”
Hamish quickly realized the extent of Bonnie’s wealth. As the chairwoman of Tang Fusion Studios, she had made him chief designer, and their company was one of the top ten in the world, with resources beyond imagination.
“Right. Understood. I’ll handle it,” Hamish confirmed.
“Very well,” Bonnie replied.
Meanwhile, Halle was still ranting to Rowena as they walked away. “I just can’t stand her. Ivor must have the worst luck to be engaged to someone as arrogant and useless as Bonnie.”
“She even said she could read fortunes and that I wasn’t fated to wear one of Hamish’s dresses. Who the hell does she think she is?” Rowena chimed in, her voice dripping with disgust.
“Absolutely. She grosses me out so much I could just puke,” Rowena added, pretending to gag.
“Hmph! Don’t worry, we’ll have plenty of chances to make fun of her at the party,” Halle said smugly, her confidence high.
Moments later, Halle’s phone rang. It was Tang Fusion Studios.
“It must be about my dress. They must have finished it!” she said, her eyes gleaming with anticipation.
