Chapter 79
Floyd’s voice echoed with urgency. “Shit!” Even he, skilled as he was, would struggle to survive against so many opponents. He feared Jim might not make it out alive. The hitmen closing in on him were relentless, and Jim seemed to be having a hard time shaking them off.
Jim’s eyes narrowed, his focus sharpening as the adrenaline coursed through him. He surged forward, grabbing one of the three hitmen in front of him and hurling him toward the others. But as he did, another hitman took advantage of the distraction and lunged at him from behind, throwing a punch aimed at the back of his head.
Reacting with lightning speed, Jim bent forward just in time, the punch grazing the back of his head. In one smooth motion, he stepped back with his right foot, gathering his strength, and launched a powerful fist straight into his opponent’s face.
The hitman crumpled to the ground, unconscious.
Was that the Soaring Cannon?
Floyd’s eyes widened in astonishment as he witnessed the move. He recognized it instantly—that was Master Jim’s signature attack!
Jim was fully in his element now. He cracked his neck, twisted his arms, and flicked his finger at the remaining hitmen, a playful smirk tugging at his lips. He was ready to finish the job.
Floyd stood frozen, still processing what he had just seen. He had recently watched the International Fighting Competition, where Master Jim’s opponent had insulted Arvandor right before the semi-final. Master Jim had been quick to respond, taunting the man with a finger wag as he prepared to demolish him. The way Jim was acting now—his taunts, his confidence—was a perfect replica of what Floyd had seen that day.
It was unmistakable: Jim had the same battle spirit as Master Jim.
Jim made short work of the remaining hitmen, overpowering them with ease. Floyd still hadn’t recovered from his shock, staring at the defeated foes lying unconscious on the ground.
Jim was enjoying himself—his body was alive with the thrill of battle. It had been too long since he’d had a fight this satisfying. As he caught Floyd’s shocked gaze, a flash of realization hit him. He’d let his instincts take over, perhaps a bit too much. Had he made Floyd suspicious?
“What’s wrong, Floyd?” Jim asked, walking over to him casually.
Floyd blinked, recovering from his daze. His voice was low as he asked, “D-Did you just use the Soaring Cannon?”
So, Floyd had recognized it.
Jim smiled sheepishly, a light chuckle escaping him. “Don’t you know? I’m a fan of Master Jim. I’ve watched his matches and tried to copy his moves.”
Floyd’s eyes widened in disbelief. “That’s his signature move! No one can copy that—not even I’ve been able to do it right! Master Jim is the only one who can use it with that kind of power. Anyone else might look like they’re imitating it, but never with the same force.”
“It’s not that hard,” Jim replied nonchalantly. “Maybe I just have a knack for it.”
Floyd mulled over Jim’s words, still trying to make sense of it. Maybe Tim did have a talent for the Soaring Cannon—but even so, it didn’t sit right with him. Could Tim really be Master Jim in disguise? They didn’t look alike, after all. But then again, Master Jim was always by Ms. Bonnie’s side as her personal bodyguard.
Jim watched Floyd’s shifting expressions, then made a quick decision. He needed to calm the man’s suspicions.
“Come on,” Jim said with a grin. “Let’s go grab some kebabs.”
Floyd grunted in agreement, still lost in thought but deciding to follow. Maybe he was overthinking it. He tried to push the doubts aside.
Meanwhile, Bonnie and Ivor’s car came to a stop at a traffic light. Bonnie glanced over at Ivor, a contemplative look in her eyes.
“There’s a dock just ahead. Should we take a walk?” she asked, her voice soft.
Ivor hesitated for a moment, surprised by the suggestion, but nodded. “Sure.”
He pulled over and both of them stepped out onto the dock. The cool ocean breeze brushed against their skin, carrying with it a chill of the night air. Ivor slipped off his suit jacket and draped it over Bonnie’s shoulders.
“It’s a bit chilly,” he said, his voice gentle. “Take this.”
Bonnie smiled, grateful for the gesture, and wrapped the jacket tightly around herself. The night felt peaceful, a stark contrast to the tension of the evening.
