Chapter 95
Bonnie, unaware of any strange happenings around her, took another bite of squid. She noticed Jim’s shift in demeanor but didn’t understand why he seemed so tense.
“What’s wrong?” she asked, puzzled.
Jim squinted, his eyes scanning the crowd. “I think someone just took our picture.”
“Are you sure?” Bonnie glanced around, but didn’t spot anyone who seemed out of place.
Jim continued to squint, still unsure. “I’m not too sure…”
Bonnie shrugged it off. “Could someone have recognized you?” she asked, guessing at the reason behind his unease.
“Maybe,” he replied, but didn’t seem overly concerned.
Bonnie smiled and waved her hand dismissively. “Don’t waste your time and effort on something so insignificant. Hurry up and eat the barbeque. They just made it. Eat it while it’s hot.” She handed him a piece of squid.
“I guess you’re right. They can take a picture if they want. I wasn’t doing anything bad anyway,” Jim said, returning to the meal.
Meanwhile, in a dark corner, a man pulled down his mask and breathed heavily, taking a moment to compose himself. He checked the photos he’d snapped, and his eyes widened.
“Holy crap. It’s Master Jim! I didn’t think I’d see him in real life,” the man muttered under his breath. He quickly sent the pictures to Trina.
Trina’s eyes nearly popped out of her head when she saw the images. “I—I Is that Master Jim? Good grief! He’s Arvandor’s King of Combat! What’s that bitch doing with him?”
Her thoughts raced. “Wait a minute! Is Master Jim the reason Bonnie had lunch with Ms. Bonita’s researchers? Was he the person she said she knew?”
She scrolled through the rest of the pictures, her eyes catching one where Bonnie was handing Jim a piece of squid. The image struck her. “They’re kind of intimate,” Trina muttered. “I’m sure they’re very close. Could they be a couple?”
A cold shiver ran down her spine. If that was true, stealing Hadwin from Bonnie would seem trivial.
Trina wasn’t truly related to the Shepard family since she was adopted. Everything she had achieved—her success, her family’s approval—came from her academic efforts and hard work. But if her parents and the Shepards found out that Bonnie was involved with Master Jim, Bonnie’s status in the family would rise dramatically, and Trina could lose everything.
“No… maybe it’s not what it looks like. Maybe they’re just friends,” Trina tried to reassure herself. But even so, Bonnie remained a significant threat to her.
After a pause, Trina transferred some money to the man who had taken the pictures. “This is just part of your payment. Keep your eyes on her. I’ll send more your way when you track her to her place.”
The man felt a rush of excitement after receiving the money, eager to continue his surveillance.
Elsewhere, Floyd stood frozen in shock as he watched Master Jim from his hiding spot in the pedestrian zone. Jim and Bonnie were chatting and laughing, clearly comfortable with one another. Floyd’s jaw dropped in disbelief.
He had been following Tim, hoping to uncover more about him, but he had lost track of the man. Now, instead of finding Tim, he had stumbled upon the King of Combat sharing barbeque with Bonnie. The sight left him both awe-struck and unsettled.
Floyd quickly snapped a photo and sent it to Ivor.
When Ivor received the image, his face hardened. The color drained from his face as his expression darkened.
“What are they doing together?” Ivor’s text came through, blunt and angry.
Floyd cursed under his breath as he read the message. The tension in the air thickened, and it was clear things were about to take a dangerous turn.
