Chapter 89
The old professors, unable to stand by any longer, spoke up before Bonnie had a chance to respond.
“You must be the girl who got into Pyralis University. You’ve clearly got a brilliant mind, considering how you achieved that, but why would you say such things? She’s your sister, after all!”
“I can’t believe you’re accusing her of seducing someone. What would the public think if they heard you say that?”
“What a wicked girl! How infuriating! How did your parents raise someone as vile as you?”
“If it weren’t for your parents, I’d have someone throw you out of Pyralis University. You’re going to be a cancer on the institution!” one of the professors spat.
Trina’s face drained of color as the professors scolded her, each word hitting harder than the last. Fear gripped her heart, and her desire to keep her reputation intact grew tenfold. She knew she couldn’t afford to offend these prestigious researchers, and now, they were all defending Bonnie. If she kept this up, she might as well be digging her own grave.
With panic rising, Trina let her tears flow freely, sobbing pitifully. “That’s not what I meant… Sob, sob… I didn’t mean it. I was just so worried about her. I was afraid she might do something foolish. I’m her sister, and I can’t just stand by while she makes a fool of herself!”
Bonnie gave a bitter laugh. “You’re worried about me? Why?”
Trina continued her theatrics, “Stop lying, Bonnie! I heard it. You hired someone to pretend to be your boyfriend at school. Apparently, he was stunning, could pass for a gigolo! How could you do that? Aren’t you worried you might catch something from a guy like that? I know people think you’re just a simpleton, but you can’t give up on yourself like this!”
Trina’s words seemed so convincing that anyone who didn’t know better might think Bonnie had lost all sense of honor and dignity. She painted Bonnie as the kind of woman who would sleep with gigolos, a shocking accusation that made her seem desperate and unscrupulous.
The crowd of onlookers began to murmur.
“Is that true? She looks like such a good girl! I didn’t expect she’d hire a gigolo and have sex with him…”
“You never know. Never judge a book by its cover. Who knows what kind of dirty things she’s done in private? You heard her sister; do you think she’d make up such an accusation if she didn’t have proof?”
“And those are researchers from Ms. Bonita’s research institute. What’s her deal, getting to have lunch with them? She must’ve used some dirty tricks to get in with those people.”
“Hush! Do you want to get us all in trouble? Do you realize you’re accusing all of these prestigious researchers of being seduced? You better be careful what you say, or you’ll regret it,” someone else whispered urgently.
“Hmph! Let them hear it. Anyway, her sister clearly said she hired a gigolo. Is it so wrong for me to speak up about that?” Trina sneered, emboldened by the whispers of approval from the onlookers.
Trina was pleased with the way the crowd was turning. Bonnie thought she was so special just because she had lunch with Ms. Bonita’s researchers. Trina truly believed that Bonnie must’ve used some underhanded tactics to secure the Best Scholar Award and her connections with these important people.
But just as Trina thought she had the upper hand, Ivor took a step forward, standing beside Bonnie. His posture was confident, his gaze unwavering as he turned to Trina.
“Are you calling me a gigolo?” he asked sternly. “Do you have any proof of that?”
Trina froze, her tears stopping in an instant. She could only stare, stunned, at Ivor. The man who stood before her was none other than the one who had picked Bonnie up from school—the very man she had insinuated was part of Bonnie’s alleged scheme.
His looks were out of this world, but it wasn’t just his appearance. His bearing was anything but the look of a gigolo. He exuded power, sophistication, and confidence—a man of importance, not a hired arm for someone’s personal gain.
