Chapter 87
Hadwin was on the fence about the whole situation. However…
“Let’s forget about it,” he finally said, shaking his head. “It’ll be a disaster if they find us waiting here and we offend Ms. Bonita. Every wealthy, prestigious family in Pyralis will turn against us. Ms. Bonita is a powerful woman.”
Trina, however, wasn’t so easily deterred. “I don’t think she’s petty, though. Even if we offend her, she wouldn’t hold a grudge. We won’t be charging at her directly, just sneaking a peek from where we’re hiding. They won’t find us.”
Hadwin wrestled with himself, uncertainty clouding his expression.
Trina, noticing his hesitation, took his arm in hers and adopted a more persuasive, cute tone. “Stop worrying about it, Hadwin. They won’t find out about us, I swear. Besides, Bonita keeps a low profile. She’ll probably dress accordingly.”
Hadwin looked doubtful, but she wasn’t done.
“What will we do if we accidentally run into her and offend her without even realizing it? It’ll be because we didn’t recognize her. We’re just trying to prepare ourselves. If she ever needs help, we can rush to her aid, and just like that, we’ll have made a connection with her! That’s the kind of opportunity we can’t miss, and it’ll benefit both of our families. It sets us up for the future!”
Trina’s words were persuasive, and Hadwin’s resistance began to wane. After a long pause, he gritted his teeth and muttered, “Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Let’s do it.”
The two of them quietly hid in a corner, waiting for Ms. Bonita and her team to finish their meal and leave the private room.
About an hour later, Ivor and Ged finished their meal and emerged from their own private room.
“Huh? What are they doing, sneaking around here? Nothing good, I bet,” Ged muttered, eyeing Hadwin and Trina with suspicion.
“It has nothing to do with us. Let’s go,” Ivor said, already turning to leave.
But Ged wasn’t done. “Hold on! I’ve got a hunch that we’re in for a good show.” He gestured for a nearby waiter.
“Mr. Ged, how can I—”
“Shh! Speak quietly,” Ged whispered, his eyes fixed on the private room that Hadwin and Trina were watching. “Tell me, who’s in that room?”
The waiter hesitated. If it had been anyone else, he might have lied, but knowing who Ged and Ivor were—the two most powerful men in the city—he didn’t dare withhold the truth. “It’s the researchers from Ms. Bonita’s research institute.”
“What?!” Ged was shocked. Even Ivor was taken aback. They exchanged a glance, both surprised. They had known Ms. Bonita and her researchers would be dining there that day, but they hadn’t expected Hadwin and Trina to be waiting for them.
“How reckless,” Ged muttered under his breath. His concern grew as he watched Ivor begin to walk away. “Are you leaving, Ivor? Don’t you want to see what Ms. Bonita looks like?”
Ivor turned and raised an eyebrow. “Those idiots are just asking for trouble. What’s the matter, Ged? You want to offend Ms. Bonita too?”
Ged pouted, his plan already unraveling. He sighed and gave up on the idea of waiting for Ms. Bonita.
Meanwhile, Trina’s eyes were locked on Ivor and Ged as they walked toward her from the other end of the hallway. She could stare at them forever, and she wouldn’t grow tired of it. They were just so incredibly handsome. She couldn’t help but wish that Hadwin could be as striking as them.
But just as she was lost in her daydream, the door to the private room swung open, pulling her out of her fantasy. And to her surprise, it was none other than Ivor who was right at the door as it opened.
