Chapter 77
The guests fell silent as Flynn’s oath echoed through the room. It was a vow made with such gravity that it left everyone questioning—had Flynn lied, or was he speaking the truth?
Sydney, her eyes blazing with fury, turned on Bonnie. “My son has sworn a solemn oath! You can’t keep denying that you tried to seduce him!”
Bonnie was caught off guard. She had never imagined Flynn would swear such an oath. But despite the shock, she wasn’t about to be intimidated by his arrogance.
“What’s the point of the legal system if oaths are all that matter?” she shot back.
Sydney’s face reddened, her chest heaving with anger. “And you still deny it? Do you really think everyone here is going to believe you?”
Jim stepped forward, his tone unwavering. “I have proof that Flynn was the one trying to take advantage of Ms. Bonnie.”
Ivor narrowed his eyes, challenging Jim. “Proof? What kind of proof? Show it to me. Go on, show everyone! My son swore an oath—how could this ‘proof’ possibly matter?”
Jim pulled out his phone and played the recording. The entire room heard Flynn clearly trying to flirt with Bonnie.
Sydney’s shout died in her throat. Her jaw hung open in disbelief. Gunnar, mortified, wished he could just disappear.
Flynn’s eyes shot daggers at Jim, furious. The bodyguard had just ruined everything.
“Ahem!” Sigmund cleared his throat, his voice sharp as he walked over to Flynn. “It’s bad enough you waste your days drinking and partying, but now you’ve gone and flirted with Ivor’s wife?”
“I’m sorry, Grandpa! Please forgive me,” Flynn stammered, trying to salvage the situation. “I wasn’t thinking straight. Anyway, I thought Ivor didn’t care for Bonnie. Didn’t you want her to marry into our family? If he doesn’t want her, I’ll take her.”
Flynn, smug, felt like he had just turned the situation in his favor.
Ivor’s expression darkened, a storm brewing behind his eyes.
Sigmund’s cane came down hard on Flynn’s back. “You arrogant brat! You still haven’t learned anything! How dare you say such nonsense?”
Flynn yelped in pain but refused to back down.
“You’re playing favorites, Grandpa. I’m your grandson too. Why can’t I marry Bonnie instead of Ivor?”
Sigmund’s patience snapped. “Do you deserve her? Look at you! If you had the slightest decency, I’d never have made such a suggestion. You don’t deserve her, and if I paired you with her, I’d be ruining her life.”
“How could you say that about me, Grandpa? She just won the Best Scholar Award! What’s so special about her?” Flynn refused to relent.
“She won the Best Scholar Award? You really are clueless!” Sigmund retorted, growing more frustrated with every word.
Flynn realized too late that he had pushed Sigmund too far. The argument wasn’t going in his favor.
Sigmund turned to Gunnar and Sydney. “Take him home. He needs to learn some respect. He’s grounded for a month.”
Sydney’s temper flared, but before she could speak, her husband silenced her with a sharp look. “Let’s just take Flynn home. We’ll talk about it later.”
Sydney shot him an icy glare, but she knew the situation had already escalated beyond saving—especially after the bodyguard’s damning recording.
And with that, the party came to an end.
“Damn it! That bodyguard ruined everything!” Flynn fumed as soon as he was back home.
“Mr. Flynn, calm down. How about I send some men to teach him a lesson?” one of his associates suggested.
“Great idea! Beat him to a pulp! Make sure to hire some elite fighters; we can’t let a bodyguard working for Ivor get away with this. No—scratch that, let’s hire hitmen!”
“As you wish, Mr. Flynn. I’ll get on it right away.”
Ivor, on the other hand, approached Jim as he was about to get into the car with Bonnie.
“You’ll be returning home with Floyd,” Ivor stated firmly.
Jim glanced at Bonnie, who gave him a silent, unreadable look in return.
