Chapter 74
Flynn grinned smugly. “I think I’m being clear enough. Nothing good will come from your relationship with him. Your engagement is ending soon, and once the clock runs out on your little arrangement, you’ll just go back to being a nobody.”
He paused, letting his words settle. “There’s no way I’ll let you return to your old life and suffer. You’d be better off with me. You can buy all the bags and jewelry you want. But let’s get one thing straight—I’ll never marry you. After all, you come from a humble background, and my parents would never agree to it anyway.”
Bonnie raised an eyebrow, clearly irritated. “Is that all?”
Flynn, confident that he had offered the best terms possible, didn’t notice the disdain in her gaze. He smiled, thinking he had her cornered. “That’s all I have to say. What do you think? I bet you can’t wait to jump at the offer.”
Bonnie’s expression hardened. She clenched her fist and replied coldly, “Not really, but I do have a strong urge to beat you to a pulp.”
Flynn blinked, stunned by her reaction. “Get out of my sight. I’m losing my appetite just looking at you.”
He was about to retort angrily, but then a thought crossed his mind, and he smirked. “Oh, I get it. You turned me down because you were worried someone might hear what I said, right? Don’t worry. We’re kind of far away from everyone else. No one will know about this.”
Bonnie stopped listening to him, treating him like he was invisible. Flynn, assuming her silence meant consent, glanced around to make sure no one was watching before he reached out to touch her.
That was his mistake.
Jim, ever vigilant, raised his leg to kick Flynn.
Bonnie noticed just in time and realized that while she didn’t want Jim to cause trouble with a Knight family member, the situation could escalate and expose his true identity. So, she acted swiftly.
She swung her leg with precision, landing a sharp kick to Flynn’s groin.
“Ouch!” Flynn yelped in pain, stumbling back several steps, clutching himself. His face turned red, and he started sweating heavily.
“Flynn!” his mother, Sydney Zimmerman, rushed over in concern. “Are you okay?”
“Owww! It hurts, Mom!” Flynn groaned.
“Damn you, you bitch! How dare you kick my son?!” Sydney roared, her fury palpable.
Bonnie looked at them coldly, her voice dripping with disdain. “He had it coming.”
Sydney seethed, her face contorted in rage. “You’re really full of yourself. How dare you say that when you kicked him, you hick!”
“Full of myself? Me?” Bonnie raised an eyebrow. “Why don’t you ask your dear son what he did?”
Ivor, having heard the commotion, approached and stood beside Bonnie, offering silent support. He didn’t need to say a word for it to be clear where he stood.
Gunnar Knight, Flynn’s father, heard the ruckus and quickly made his way over. When he saw his son wincing in pain, he demanded, “What on earth happened here?”
Flynn, still recovering from the pain, spoke through gritted teeth. “It’s her. She tried to seduce me, so I let her have it, and then she hit me out of spite.”
Several guests overheard and gave Bonnie judgmental looks.
“Did that really happen? Was Bonnie trying to seduce Flynn?”
“Didn’t you hear what he said? Bonnie and Ivor’s engagement is ending, so I guess she wasn’t willing to go back to her old life. She probably got used to the high life. Maybe that’s why she tried to seduce him.”
“You’ve got a point…”
Sydney, incensed by the whispers, raised her voice. “You’re shameless!” she spat. “I’ve seen plenty of hicks, but I’ve never seen a whore as shameless as you!”
Bonnie didn’t hesitate. She took a step forward and slapped Sydney hard across the face.
Slap!
The sound of the slap echoed through the room, and the once-bustling party fell into an eerie silence.
