Chapter 67
Halle answered the call with excitement. “Have you finished my dress?”
“I’m sorry, Ms. Halle. We’ve decided to cancel your reservation for the dress,” came the response.
“What?!” Halle’s eyes widened in shock. “How could you do that? I paid the deposit!”
“I’m very sorry. The decision came from top management. Don’t worry, though—we’ll compensate you for your loss.”
“I don’t want your compensation! I want my dress! The dress Hamish designed!” Halle shouted angrily.
“We’ve transferred the compensation to your account. Please verify it,” the voice on the other end replied.
“I won’t agree to this! I’m… Hello? Hey!” Halle’s voice trailed off as the line went dead.
Fuming, Halle smashed her phone against the wall. “Damn Tang Fusion Studios! How could they cancel my reservation like that?!”
Rowena, who had been silently watching, asked in confusion, “What happened?”
“How would I know?!” Halle roared. Then, a thought struck her. She whipped her head toward Rowena, who had also remembered their earlier conversation with Bonnie. But, of course, they couldn’t possibly think it was connected. It must’ve been just a coincidence.
Meanwhile, Ivor was in his study, giving instructions to Floyd. “Call Tang Fusion Studios again. I want that dress. It’s the most exquisite piece I’ve ever seen. It has to be mine.”
Floyd hesitated. “I just spoke to them, Mr. Ivor. Someone’s already purchased the dress.”
“Who bought it? I’ll speak to them myself.”
Ivor had been hoping to surprise Bonnie, but he hadn’t expected this much trouble.
“I asked them,” Floyd continued. “They said it was someone in top management.”
“Do they have a name?” Ivor asked, his impatience growing.
“I’ll check,” Floyd said, quickly making another call.
Soon, Floyd returned with the answer. “It was their chairman, Mr. Ivor.”
Ivor’s face darkened with realization. There was nothing he could do now. He couldn’t undo his own purchase.
Seeing how displeased Ivor was, Floyd cautiously asked, “Should I contact another top fashion designer, Mr. Ivor?”
Ivor waved him off. “Do it. But I won’t be happy about it.”
The Knight family’s annual dinner party took place a week later. Ivor had Floyd personally deliver the dress he’d gotten for Bonnie to her room.
“Ms. Bonnie says she already has a dress for the party, Mr. Ivor,” Floyd said as he brought the dress back downstairs.
Ivor frowned. Was Bonnie refusing to accept his gift?
Floyd glanced at Bonnie’s room, a little concerned. “I know it’s just a family dinner, but all the branches of the Knight family will be there, and each one will be playing their own game to further their agenda. If Ms. Bonnie dresses too plainly, they might ridicule her.”
“Let her dress however she wants,” Ivor replied, his tone resolute. “I won’t forgive anyone who dares to ridicule her.”
Floyd knew better than to argue with his master, so he kept his thoughts to himself.
Just as the conversation ended, they heard a door creak open upstairs.
“Is Ms. Bonnie ready? Did she put on any makeup?” Floyd asked, still worried that Bonnie would be underdressed for the occasion.
Then, his jaw dropped when he saw Bonnie descending the stairs. Ivor, too, stood up involuntarily, his black eyes fixed on her, unable to look away.
