Chapter 65
Bonnie’s eyes flickered in surprise.
Was Ivor tying her shoes?
Who would have thought that the high-powered CEO of Pyralis would act so unexpectedly?
Bonnie’s heart fluttered slightly, an unfamiliar warmth spreading through her.
“There.” Ivor stood up, his actions surprisingly gentle.
Bonnie was momentarily taken aback. She felt a little flustered, unsure how to react. “Oh. Um…”
Ivor caught the subtle blush that crossed Bonnie’s face. A wave of affection washed over him at the sight of her. He couldn’t help but find her endearing.
“Aren’t you going to give me a bite of the taco?” he asked with a teasing smile.
Bonnie composed herself and handed him the taco. What she didn’t expect was for Ivor to take her hand, gently lift it to his lips, and take a bite of the taco she was holding. Her lips twitched, and she stared at him, unsure of how to respond.
“Hmm… It’s tasty. Really good,” Ivor said, his eyes twinkling as he looked at Bonnie.
She quickly averted her gaze, focusing on the taco. She wasn’t usually picky about sharing food, but something felt different after he’d taken that bite. She couldn’t quite put her finger on it.
“Why aren’t you eating?” Ivor asked, his grin widening. “Hurry, or it won’t taste as good when it’s cold.”
Bonnie shook off her thoughts and took a bite, trying to focus on the food. As she ate, Ivor watched her closely, his smile never fading.
Later, when she returned to her room at the villa, Bonnie found Jim emerging from her bathroom. “What are you doing in my bathroom again?” she asked, closing and locking the door behind her quickly, afraid Ivor might sense something amiss.
“I heard you were in danger!” Jim said, his voice laced with concern.
Bonnie rolled her eyes. “I wasn’t really in danger. It was just a minor scuffle. Nothing to worry about.”
“That’s not the point,” Jim countered. “You’re Arvandor’s top researcher. I can’t allow you to be harmed. If it were up to me, you’d be surrounded by a hundred bodyguards.”
Bonnie smacked her forehead in disbelief. “Do you think I’m some kind of endangered animal?”
Jim smirked. “Nope. You’re the last specimen of an extinct species.”
Bonnie had no response to that.
“You may have been fine this time, but we can’t just let it slide. Sacha did something terrible. She hired a group of men to assault you, someone of your status. I’m not going to let this go,” Jim said, his eyes narrowing with resolve.
She waved her hand dismissively. “She’s getting what she deserves. She’s behind bars now, and that’s enough. There’s no need to—”
“No way!” Jim interrupted. “I’ll listen to your orders most of the time, but when it comes to your safety, I won’t back down. This is my duty, and I’ll do what’s necessary to keep you safe.”
Bonnie knew how stubborn Jim was, so she just sighed in defeat. “Fine. Have it your way.”
The next day, Sacha’s family paid her a visit. They told her that the university she had applied to had rejected her, and no other higher education institutes would accept her either. Sacha was beside herself, drowning in despair.
Meanwhile, the Prismatic Hotel’s request for a five-star upgrade was also denied. All their business partners withdrew their contracts, and the Moss family faced bankruptcy.
The annual dinner party at the Knight premises was just around the corner. It was a rare and significant event. Every young lady in the family was busy preparing for it, buying specially tailored dresses for the occasion.
