Chapter 64
Sergeant Zain took a step toward Sacha, his gaze sharp. “I’m going to ask you again, Ms. Sacha. Did Ms. Bonnie hire those men to attack you?”
Sacha’s mouth hung open in shock. Her eyes were wide, and she felt completely caught off guard. She had no idea how to respond. Every insult she had planned to throw at Bonnie felt useless now, especially with Ivor standing there.
Sergeant Zain’s words rang true: Bonnie was the future wife of the CEO of the Knight Group. Who in their right mind would throw all that away to seduce Dwayne?
“Mr. Ivor, Ms. Bonnie, you’re free to go,” Sergeant Zain said, his tone dismissive.
“Very well.” Ivor nodded, then removed his blazer and draped it over Bonnie’s shoulders. His voice lowered, just for their ears. “We need to make this look convincing.”
Bonnie followed his lead, adjusting the blazer around her shoulders. She smiled warmly at him, her voice soft, “Thank you.”
Ivor’s hands clenched at his sides, his breath slightly quicker. He turned toward the door. “Let’s go.”
Before leaving, he glanced back at Dwayne and Sacha. “I hope no one finds out about what happened tonight. Otherwise, the Prismatic Hotel will cease to exist in Pyralis.”
Dwayne’s face drained of color, and his legs trembled beneath him. “I—I won’t tell anyone, I swear. Just… please, let it be over.”
Sacha watched them leave, a mix of fear and envy clouding her thoughts. She was certain this was the end.
“Let’s proceed with the case,” Sergeant Zain said, his tone icy as he turned to Dwayne and Sacha. The fear in Sacha’s eyes was palpable as she collapsed to the floor. It was over.
By the end of the night, Sacha was taken into custody, and Dwayne was sent home with his family. His relatives made it clear that he would never see Sacha again unless he wanted to lose his inheritance of the Prismatic Hotel. He might love her, but he wasn’t foolish enough to risk his future over a woman.
“Ah!” Sergeant Zain suddenly slapped his thigh with such force that it startled his subordinate standing next to him.
“W—What’s wrong, Sergeant?” the underling asked, confused.
“I remember who Bonnie is now!” Sergeant Zain exclaimed, eyes wide.
His subordinate blinked. “Isn’t she the future wife of the Knight Group CEO?”
“You don’t know anything!” Zain scolded. “She’s Ms. Bonita!”
The underling’s eyes widened in realization.
It was late when Bonnie and Ivor finally left the police station. The chill of the night air was beginning to set in, a reminder of the cold evenings in Pyralis.
Bonnie spotted a taco truck by the side of the road. She couldn’t help but look longingly at it.
“Do you want some tacos?” Ivor noticed where her gaze had drifted.
“Yeah,” she said with a soft laugh. “I used to eat tacos all the time back in the suburbs. I could never get enough of them.” She looked up at him. “I’m going to get one. Do you want one too?”
“I’ll buy them,” Ivor said before she could respond, striding over to the taco truck without waiting for her reply.
Bonnie raised an eyebrow but didn’t object. He returned moments later, handing her one. “Here,” he said, offering her the taco.
Bonnie took it and, with a teasing smile, asked, “Do you want a bite? I know it’s not caviar, but it’s pretty good.”
Ivor stopped her with a small gesture. “Hold that thought.” He crouched in front of her, looking up at her with a mysterious glint in his eyes.
Bonnie’s heart skipped a beat. What was he doing?
She looked down at him, her curiosity piqued.
