Chapter 61
The lead officer stepped out of the patrol car, his expression serious as he scanned the scene. “We received a call about a fight in progress. Looks like that’s you all, huh?” He took in the sight of the hired men sprawled on the ground and his gaze landed on Bonnie. “Did you take them all on by yourself?”
Bonnie nodded casually and pointed to Sacha. “She brought them here to attack me.”
Sacha’s eyes widened, her voice trembling with indignation. “W–What nonsense are you spouting, Bonnie? You’re the one who brought them here to beat me up!”
Bonnie raised an eyebrow, unamused. “Oh? Did I? Then why would I beat them if I hired them?” She smirked. “Maybe they had a sudden change of heart and decided to help me instead. You know, in a moment of conscience.”
Sacha’s face turned red with fury. She wasn’t ready to back down. “That’s exactly what happened! Ask them! They’ll tell you the truth!”
The officer raised an eyebrow, turning his attention to the group of men lying on the ground. “Alright, fellas. What’s the story here? Who’s telling the truth?”
The hired men exchanged uncertain glances. Sacha shot them a subtle look, signaling them to back her up. After all, they were her hired help, and they had only received a deposit. The rest of their payment would come once everything was settled.
One of the men hesitated before finally speaking up, “Y–Yeah, officer. It was her.” They all pointed at Bonnie. “She hired us!”
The officer looked back at Bonnie, his expression unreadable. “Is that true?”
Bonnie remained unfazed, her voice calm and even. “Not at all.”
The officer rubbed his forehead in frustration. “Alright. You’re all coming with me to the station. I want you to call your families, too.”
Bonnie’s heart sank. She didn’t want to involve Vera or Gresham—they would only make things worse, forcing her to apologize to Sacha. She had no intention of giving in to their demands.
With no other option, she reluctantly dialed Ivor’s number. When he picked up, his voice was tinged with frustration. “Why aren’t you home yet?”
“I ran into a little trouble,” Bonnie replied, trying to keep her voice steady.
Ivor’s tone shifted immediately to concern. “What happened? Are you in a car accident? Where are you? I’ll come right away!”
Bonnie’s heart softened for a moment at the worry in his voice, but she quickly refocused. “I’m at the police station.”
There was a brief pause on the other end of the line. “The police station? Weren’t you supposed to be at the hospital?”
Bonnie rubbed the side of her head, already feeling the headache building. “I wasn’t in a car crash. Just… a little situation.”
She hung up and walked over to where Sacha was sitting across from her, the tension palpable between them.
As they sat in silence, Sergeant Zain, the officer in charge of their case, approached with a clipboard. “Do either of you have any identification on you?” he asked.
Bonnie shook her head. “I don’t have anything with me.”
Sacha mirrored her response. “Neither do I.”
Sergeant Zain sighed. “Guess we’ll have to wait for your families to show up then.”
Just as the words left his mouth, the door to the police station opened, and in walked Dwayne.
