Chapter 58
Dwayne’s fury boiled over as he sprinted after Bonnie, grabbing her shoulder with a vice-like grip. Without a second thought, Bonnie spun around, her hand snapping to his arm, and in one smooth motion, she hurled him over her shoulder. He flew through the air, crashing heavily into a table, the sound of splintering wood ringing in the air.
“Ouch! Ow!” Dwayne yelped in pain, rolling on the floor, clutching his back.
Bonnie didn’t even spare him a glance. She brushed her shoulder as if something filthy had just touched it, a look of disgust on her face. Without another word, she turned and left, her steps calm and measured.
A moment later, Sacha appeared from around a corner, eyes locked on Bonnie’s retreating figure. Her glare could’ve burned a hole in the wall. If she hadn’t overheard everything, she wouldn’t have known that Dwayne had been harboring feelings for Bonnie for a long time—feelings that had led him to want to marry her.
Sacha’s face twisted with jealousy and frustration. She had worked so hard for Dwayne’s attention, had invested everything in their relationship, and now Bonnie was threatening to take it all away. Sacha wasn’t going to let that happen.
Her fingers quickly dialed a number. “I need a few guys…”
Bonnie headed straight to the research institute after her encounter with Dwayne. As soon as she entered, the professors crowded around her, eager to speak with her.
“You’re here at last, Ms. Bonita!” one of the older professors exclaimed. “I’ve hit a dead end with my research, and it’s been bothering me for a long time. I need your help.”
Bonnie raised a hand, silencing him. “Make way and line up. You’ve seen many winters, old timer. Don’t you know you should wait your turn?”
The professor blinked, slightly flustered, but obediently stepped aside.
“There’s something else, Ms. Bonita,” another professor spoke up, a bit more hesitantly. “Do you remember when you announced the collaboration with the Knight Group?”
Bonnie nodded, her mind briefly flicking to the project. “Yes, I do. What about it?”
“Well, someone from the Knight Group called us. They said their CEO would like to meet with you in person to discuss the nanomaterial. They want to better understand it to leverage its potential value.”
Did that mean Ivor wanted to meet her? Bonnie’s thoughts slowed as she processed the information. She hadn’t expected this.
“I won’t meet him in person,” she said finally, after a moment’s contemplation. “I’ll just text him.”
“Alright. Do you need his number?” the professor asked.
“No need. Just give me his Telegram.”
The professor nodded, making a quick note before passing her the account information. Bonnie added Ivor on Telegram, then turned her attention back to the task at hand.
It didn’t take long for Ivor to message her.
“Hello, Ms. Bonita.”
“Hello,” she replied.
“I’d like to understand more about the latest nanomaterial.”
“Sure,” she typed back, already thinking ahead to the specifics.
Meanwhile, in Ivor’s office, Ged sat idly by, watching his friend’s conversation unfold with palpable jealousy.
“Give me her Telegram account, Ivor,” Ged said, a mischievous grin on his face.
Ivor raised an eyebrow, confused. “What are you going to do with it?”
Ged puffed out his chest, smug. “I’m going to brag about it, of course! If my friends know I have Ms. Bonita’s Telegram, they’ll be green with envy.”
Ivor rolled his eyes, unfazed. “I can’t believe you’d pester her over something so trivial. Anyway, do you think Ms. Bonita will accept your request? Maybe you should save yourself the embarrassment.”
Ged chuckled. “Geez. Would you listen to yourself?”
Just then, the office door creaked open, and Floyd entered, holding a document in his hands.
“We need this, Mr. Ivor. It’s urgent.”
Ivor set his phone down to sign the document, but Ged had already snatched it up, his eyes glued to the phone screen. He quickly opened Bonnie’s Telegram profile, memorizing her account details.
“Cut it out, Ged!” Ivor snapped, but it was too late. Ged had already added Bonnie on Telegram.
Ivor sighed, rubbing his temples. “I told you. It doesn’t mean she’ll accept your request.”
Ged leaned back in his chair, a confident smirk on his face. “You don’t know that! I just might get a lucky break!”
Back in the research institute, Bonnie’s focus remained on the conversation with Ivor. She had no time for petty distractions. But a small part of her couldn’t help but wonder about his intentions.
Why did he want to meet her? And more importantly, why was he so insistent? But for now, those questions could wait. The work was far more pressing.
Sacha’s schemes, Dwayne’s desperate pleas, and Ivor’s sudden interest were all little pieces in a much bigger puzzle. And Bonnie wasn’t about to let anyone, especially not Dwayne or Sacha, distract her from the prize she was after.
