Chapter 57
The moment Bonnie’s message went out, the group chat was thrown into complete chaos. They had quickly created a new one, one that excluded her from the conversation.
“What are we going to do? If Bonnie really does what she says, we won’t be able to show our faces anywhere.”
“Why is she being so mean?”
“Bonnie’s exactly the type of mean girl you’d never want to meet.”
The silence that followed confirmed Bonnie’s suspicions. They had moved their discussion elsewhere, undoubtedly insulting her behind her back. But Bonnie wasn’t bothered. She wasn’t going to go easy on them. They had brought this upon themselves.
In the new group chat, they turned to Sacha for help.
“Dwayne’s your boyfriend, Sacha. Ask him if he can help us out.”
“Agreed.”
“Seconded.”
Sacha, clearly at a loss, sighed and called Dwayne. “I need a favor, honey…”
The next day, Bonnie arrived at the café Sacha had mentioned, but instead of Sacha, Dwayne was sitting there, his posture too casual and his smile too charming.
“What are you doing here?” Bonnie asked, raising an eyebrow.
Dwayne handed her a menu. “See anything you like? Go ahead and order whatever you want. It’s my treat.”
Bonnie didn’t even glance at the menu. “Did Sacha ask you to settle our dispute?”
Dwayne’s grin widened, and he gave her a thumbs up. “The Best Scholar in the city, huh? I used to think you were just a pretty girl. Imagine my surprise when you got the perfect score and got yourself into Pyralis University.
“Sacha keeps saying you cheated your way to the Best Scholar Award. She’s a silly girl. There’s no way that happened.”
Bonnie frowned. “Aren’t you here on Sacha’s behalf? What’s going on?”
Dwayne leaned back in his chair, eyes scanning her in a way that made her skin crawl. “You’re a smart girl. I think you know what I mean.”
Bonnie’s eyes narrowed at him. “So, you still want me?”
He clapped his hands together, the sound sharp in the quiet café. “See? You’re smart. It’s not hard to talk to you at all, not like Sacha. She’s so foolish. She might have obeyed all my whims, but it felt too easy at times. There’s no challenge with her.
“But you? You’re different. You’re smart, you’re the Best Scholar in the city, and your family background is better than hers too. My parents would be much happier if I married you. We can talk about marriage after you meet them in two days. I’m not getting any younger, after all.
“As for school, well, you can continue studying. But you’ll need to leave for a while once you’re pregnant. My parents… they’re not in the best health. You’ll have to back off if there’s any conflict. They’ll be your in-laws, after all.”
Bonnie stared at him, her expression turning from disbelief to disgust. “Heh.”
“What’s so funny?” Dwayne growled, his eyes narrowing.
Bonnie’s laugh was cold. “Your shamelessness amuses me! Do you even look at yourself before you walk out the door? I feel disgusted just sitting here, staring at your perverted face. How dare you make a list of demands? You’re disgusting.”
Without another word, she stood up to leave.
Dwayne, his smile faltering, jumped up to block her path. “There’s no need to get so worked up. My demands aren’t that outrageous. After all, the Moss family is much wealthier than the Shepard family. You’ll be marrying into a better family.”
He reached into his pocket and pulled out a bank card. “There’s a million dollars in this. It’s yours if you agree to marry me.”
Bonnie didn’t hesitate. She snatched the card out of his hand and, without even a glance, threw it straight at his face.
“Ow!” Dwayne cried, clutching his cheek where the card had struck him.
Bonnie’s voice was ice-cold. “You’re not even fit to lick my boots. Get out of here, you gross pig.”
Fuming with rage, Dwayne lost his composure. “Fuck you. You were lucky I even had my eye on you. I’m warning you, Bonnie. Don’t be so ungrateful. I’ll give you one last chance. Come to me and give me a kiss. Otherwise, I’ll…”
Bonnie didn’t wait for him to finish his sentence. She turned on her heel and walked out without a second glance.
“Damn it! How dare you embarrass me!” Dwayne’s voice echoed in the café, but Bonnie was already gone, her steps steady and unbothered.
Bonnie had taken control of the situation. She wasn’t about to let anyone walk all over her, not anymore.
