Chapter 34
Halle felt a wave of unease wash over her as she glanced at Rowena, who appeared equally troubled. Rowena spoke up, her voice laced with forced calm, “There’s no need to watch the security footage, Ivor. After all, Grandpa Sigmund likes her. I might not care about her, but I still need to show him some respect.”
She sighed dramatically, brushing away the situation with a wave. “What’s done is done. My grandmother’s been gone for a while now. I can keep the bracelet, but she won’t come back to me. I’ll let this slide for Grandpa Sigmund’s sake.”
Rowena then hooked her arm through Halle’s, pulling her away. “Let’s go, Halle.”
But Ivor’s voice stopped them cold. “Who said you could leave?”
Both Rowena and Halle froze, confusion flashing across their faces. Why wasn’t Ivor letting this go? He was a powerful man, accustomed to getting his way. There was no way he’d care about a nobody like Bonnie.
Ivor strode toward them, his eyes cold. “Apologize to Bonnie.”
“We didn’t do anything wrong!” Rowena snapped, still unwilling to back down.
Ivor’s expression remained icy. “Alright, I’ll check the security footage and send it to everyone in the family.”
His words hit them like a punch. The color drained from their faces.
The coldness in Ivor’s gaze sent a shiver down their spines. “Apologize to Bonnie, and do it properly. Otherwise, I’ll make you both regret what you did.”
Both Rowena and Halle stood frozen in place, struggling against the humiliation they were being forced to endure. It was the most degrading moment of their lives, and yet, they knew they had no choice but to obey.
Ivor’s voice was unyielding. “I’m going to count to three.”
“One.”
“Two.”
The tension was unbearable as they clung to their pride, teeth clenched, but their resistance faltered.
“Three.”
With their faces turning pale from the mounting pressure, Halle and Rowena knew they had no way out. “We’re sorry!” they both muttered in unison. Even worse, they bowed their heads to Bonnie in apology.
“You can go now,” Ivor said, his face as blank as ever.
Halle and Rowena wasted no time and scurried out of the room, eager to escape the torment.
Bonnie approached Ivor, her tone more relaxed now. “Thanks for standing up for me. I didn’t really need your help, but I have to say I owe you one. I don’t like having a favor hanging over my head. How do you want me to repay you?”
Ivor pointed toward the staircase. “Play chess with me.”
Bonnie nodded. “Sure, but I’ve got some business to take care of outside. Let’s do it tonight instead.”
“Sure.”
Bonnie flashed him a casual smile, though there was something almost tempting in her tone. “Come to my room tonight. I’ll be waiting.”
Before Ivor could process her words, she was already gone, leaving him staring after her in confusion.
“Where’s Bonnie?”
“She left just a second ago,” the servant replied, almost nonchalantly.
Frowning, Ivor made his way up to his study, intent on returning to his work. But something about Bonnie’s words lingered in his mind, pulling him away from his tasks. Without realizing it, he found himself walking to the window.
It was there that he saw her—Bonnie, stepping into a Rolls-Royce, a man standing by the car.
“Huh?”
His breath caught as his eyes narrowed. Was that Jim Ray, Ms. Bonita’s bodyguard?
