Chapter 30
“Count me in!”
“Me too!”
The students continued to ridicule Bonnie, their laughter filling the room. Bonnie, however, remained calm and composed. She surveyed the crowd before speaking, her voice steady.
“Well, how about a bet?” she suggested, her words cutting through the noise.
“What are we betting on?” a student asked, intrigued.
“Whether I can get into Pyralis University. If you lose, you’ll all have to shave your heads,” Bonnie said with a confident smile.
“All right! But if you lose, you have to shave yours as well,” one of them responded, eager for the stakes.
“Deal,” Bonnie agreed without hesitation.
A student quickly held up her phone, recording the conversation. “I’ve recorded what you said,” she warned. “Bonnie, if you lose and don’t do as you promised, we’ll put this online and show the world what a liar you are!”
Before the day was over, almost every student at school knew about the bet. Sacha and her friends had spread the word, eager to make Bonnie the laughingstock of the school and ensure she couldn’t back out. If Bonnie failed to keep her word, she would lose all credibility and respect.
Bonnie endured taunts all day, but she knew the day was almost over, and she hoped to find some peace back at the Knight Residence. Unfortunately, when she arrived, she became the target of two uninvited guests.
“A country bumpkin like you doesn’t belong here, Bonnie!” Halle Knight’s voice rang out, filled with disdain. “You’re not worthy of my cousin! I can’t believe my grandpa wants him to marry you! And how could Aunt Maisie give you her blessing? I don’t care what she said. You need to leave Ivor immediately!”
Bonnie met Halle’s tirade with a cool, amused smile. “Who the hell do you think you are? Why should I listen to anything you say?”
Halle’s face flushed with frustration, but before she could respond, Rowena, who had entered with her, glared at Bonnie. “You’re so rude! Halle is Ivor’s cousin. How could you talk to her like that?”
Bonnie wasn’t fazed. “So what if she’s Ivor’s cousin? She’s the one being rude. I don’t need this crap, okay? Just leave me alone,” she said, turning to walk away.
Infuriated by Bonnie’s response, Halle lost her cool and tried to slap her.
