Chapter 99
Bethany’s thoughts were a tangled mess of fear and anger. She couldn’t shake the nagging feeling that Eden—whether or not she was Cyan—was somehow connected to everything that had gone wrong in their lives. The way Victor had protected Eden, the way Eden had handled the situation, everything pointed to a deeper involvement than just business.
Myra stood silently beside her mother, her emotions still raw, but the words Antony had spoken had struck a chord. She hated Cyan, she hated the memory of her, and she especially hated the way Eden seemed to effortlessly occupy the space that once belonged to her. Still, the reality of Victor’s influence on their lives couldn’t be ignored. They were desperate for his support, and anger toward him or his people wasn’t a luxury they could afford.
“I can’t forget her face,” Myra muttered under her breath, her hands clenched into fists.
Bethany’s eyes flickered with a mix of fear and resolve. “We can’t let this go. I’ll do whatever it takes, but Eden will pay for this one day. She doesn’t know what she’s walking into.” Her voice was low, almost like a vow.
Kara, a trusted servant, stepped forward cautiously, noticing the tension in the room. “Perhaps it’s best if we give it some time. We’re in no position to rush into anything.” She kept her voice neutral, but it was clear she was trying to keep the peace.
Bethany shook her head, her mind working in overdrive. “Time? No, we need to act now before it’s too late.” She paused, her eyes narrowing with determination. “Eden thinks she can intimidate us, but she’s wrong. I’ll figure out exactly who she is, and once I do, nothing will stand in my way.”
Meanwhile, Antony was in the car, frowning deeply as he replayed the scene in his mind. He had seen Eden’s quiet confidence, her composure even in the face of his family’s arrogance. He could tell there was more to her than met the eye, but what exactly, he wasn’t sure.
“She isn’t Cyan,” he muttered to himself. “But if she was, then everything changes. We’ll have to tread carefully.”
It was clear that the Gienger family was in turmoil, their position precarious, and their path forward uncertain. Antony knew that while his mother and sister might be blinded by their hatred for Eden, he would have to play the long game. The future of the Gienger family—and their business—was hanging in the balance, and it wasn’t something he could afford to lose.
As he pulled into the parking lot of the Gienger company headquarters, he resolved to keep an eye on Eden, to gather more information about her past. If she was truly connected to Cyan, there was more to her than anyone realized. And if she wasn’t… well, there was still a powerful woman to contend with, one who had earned Victor’s trust and attention.
Back at the Alwynn Group, Eden’s thoughts were far from the chaos she had just left behind. The day had been a mix of tension and satisfaction, and the promise of a new house and a dinner with Jasper brought her a sense of calm. But there was still that lingering curiosity about Victor’s feelings, and a small part of her couldn’t shake the thought that things were changing between them.
As she sat in her office later, reviewing files, her phone buzzed again. It was a message from Victor: “Dinner tonight. I’ll pick you up.”
Eden’s lips curved into a smile as she typed her reply. “Looking forward to it.”
For now, the evening ahead was her focus, but deep down, she knew things were about to get even more complicated. The Gienger family was not going to back down quietly, and if they suspected her connection to Cyan, the storm was only just beginning.
